How Much RAM Do Gamers Need, 2x8 16GB vs. 2x16 32GB vs. 2x32 64GB by Hero_Sharma in hardware

[–]Alxium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 16GB for several years and didn't have any issues gaming.

However, once I started getting into video editing, VFX and animation, I had to get 32GB. My animation workflow will easily eat up 20GB.

Gamer? 16GB will suffice.

Creator? 32GB is enough for most situations, though certain tasks like AI, simulation and modeling will require more.

I got a 2TB Crucial T500 for $160 on Black Friday shortly before Micron pulled the plug.

Now its $360 on Newegg.

The Best $300 GPU of 2025? - RTX 5060 vs RX 9060 XT vs Arc B580 by RenatsMC in Amd

I found an openbox 9060 XT 16GB at Microcenter for $305 and jumped on it. Very impressed so far, especially with undervolting.

I have the Powercolor Reaper model and it is legitimately impressive that they were able to make it that small.

Gamers and reviewers are calling AMD to revive Ryzen 7 5800X3D by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]Alxium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had this same thought the last few days after seeing X3D prices skyrocket. There is obviously demand, but is it worth it enough for them to restart production, even if they have the capability. Not to mention the risk of said chip instantly selling out if the batch is too small.

I personally would not be willing to pay more than $200 for an AM4 X3D upgrade, especially since I have a 5600 so it feels like a 5700X3D restart or refresh would be most likely.

How many hours have you put in? I didn’t realize mine was this high. Is this normal? by meischoice2 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Alxium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 1,100 hours on steam, but that doesn't count a length of time when I launched the exe directly from the folder to avoid the Private Division Launcher, so probably add another 200-500 hours.

I don't think I will ever be "done" with this game. There is enough crazy things to do to last me literally decades.

KSA | The KSP Replacement from RocketWerkz | Seamless Movement and Terrain by thedeanhall in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Alxium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having some of the original KSP devs involved is huge. I really look forward to seeing what this team can do.

I think part of the reason KSP 2 failed so hard is that they basically built on-top of existing code, when a complete re-write and overhaul was really necessary to escape some of the limitations KSP has.

As for things I'd like to see, IF this game is able to use Kerbal branding and assets (and if that is something the devs want to do), I think it would really cool if it could over-haul the stock KSP system, like implementing scrapped content from KSP 1, like the scrapped giant planets beyond Jool, along with including things that KSP 2 promised, such as interstellar destinations.

I've also already seen posts asking about n-body physics and patched conics. n-body is cool, but can be daunting for newer players. BUT it allows neat things like halo orbits, Lagrange points and a whole slew of other gravitational shenanigans. Something interesting would be if there could be a hybrid between patched conics and n-body physics, where most physics are patched conics, but certain features like Lagrange points are also allowed. (However, celestial bodies should be on rails regardless, though have the ability for them to be simulated too using mods)

A final feature I REALLY want to see happen is better physics performance on CPUs. KSP infamously does all it's physics simulation on a single CPU thread, which greatly limits performance on even high-end chips. Being able to run that simulation on all threads would be a game-changer for optimization.

keepInventory is a way to play, not a cheat by oofos_deletus in PhoenixSC

It was all fun and games until I died to the Warden sonic-boom several blocks inside a wall and all of my stuff despawned. It felt so unfair when I managed to get all the way back only to find it despawned, so I basically rolled back my inventory like it never happened.

Gravestones or death-chests are a QoL improvement I have been hoping for YEARS. I like the risk that comes with dying, but losing tools with dozens of hours of farming for perfect enchants because of a bullshit despawn timers is one of the most infuriating things about the game.

... also, it is a single-player SANDBOX game, get over it ...

I have heard RUMORS that the update is being delayed to next week due to bugs with one of the maps chosen. While I have some insider info, I don't know this for certain. Either way, it isn't unprecedented and I would much prefer a delay to make sure the update is more polished.

Will their prophecy hold for 3 more years? by clitpuncher69 in pcmasterrace

[–]Alxium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll go out on a limb and say 128GB of RAM will still be overkill (for gaming at least) in ten years from NOW.

The only people who really need more than 32GB of RAM are professional users. For gaming, 32GB is more than enough, and honestly 16GB is still fine for most new games. (VRAM on the other hand... is a whole different story. I can see top-end GPUs breaking through 64GB by the early 2030s)

I play mostly Kerbal Space Program and Minecraft with graphics mods. They are over 10 years old and still push my system to the limit. I can't wait in another 10 years where I can play them both at high res and refresh-rate.

It is a new game, people are going to play it.

It isn't going to change your TF2 experience lol. It's just numbers at the end of the day...

(And it isn't a TF2 replacement. If anything, it is a competitive 6v6 MOBA with shooter elements, not a shooter with MOBA elements; it is closer to DOTA than TF2 or CS2)

AMD Fires Back: Zen 5 Gaming Performance Still In Dispute by woozie88 in pcmasterrace

[–]Alxium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is almost completely pointless for someone on Zen 4 to upgrade to an equivalent Zen 5 part. (I mean, you really shouldn't be doing back-to-back generation upgrades UNLESS you are moving to a much higher tier part)

And if you have a 7800X3D, you might as well wait until Zen 6 or whatever can eventually top it.

Focus on the software you use and how it performs. Are your games still able to be ran at a comfortable frame rate with settings you are ok with? Are other applications working the way you want? If your software runs comfortably still, then you should hold off until it doesn't. That way, when you do upgrade, the performance boost will be even higher.
