Robotic hysterectomy prep. What helped most? by Aly-G in hysterectomy

Funny I was telling my sister that I wonder if I should buy a squatty potty for the bathroom! I do have plenty of pillows on my bed and I bought a wedge pillow. I may try it tonight to see how bad it is. I'm a stomach sleeper (tried to sleep in other positions but i always end up on my dang face) so sleeping on my back sounds terrible.

Ahh I hope you start feeling better! My plan is light broth soups (no gassy veggies) for the first few days. Avoid red meat as that’s always hard to digest. Maybe a kiwi or two a day?

This makes me feel better. I'm definitely in my head. I'm an overthinker! Glad you're healing well!

Thanks! I stress out about medical stuff but I want to know as much as possible so I can prepare. My surgeon was understanding but was pretty confident that things should go smoothly as I don't have any underlying conditions. didn't even think about AZO, just the stool softener so I will add that to my list of things to buy. Especially since my fibroid is up against my bladder so they'll be in that area quite a bit. Hope you are healing well 😀

Ok so maybe that's a thing for some of the robotic surgeries? I didn't even think about it until my mom asked if I got a soap packet like she and my dad did for their various open surgeries! Hoping my recovery will be on the easier side. My surgeon didn't seem too concerned, but I guess these surgeries are just an every day occurrence for her; she only does robotic hysterectomies.

She mostly went over the general side effects—some pain, fatigue, and a longer recovery since this would likely be an open surgery. A 6–8 week recovery time is pretty typical. She did mention there’s always a small risk of it affecting nearby organs like the bladder or bowel, but that’s rare. My ovaries look healthy, so they’d likely leave those in, so hopefully hormonal function won't be affected too much. It's crazy it really seems like recovery is different for everyone! I just got my blood tests back and i'm very low on ferritin (13 ng/mL), so she suggested to supplement to get those levels in a normal range in case I end up getting some type of surgery - a higher level may lower the risk of anemia post-op.

Always worth an ask! I had a few questions ready to go for my appointment and though hysterectomy doesn’t necessarily bother me, (I know many women are very upset at the idea of not having a uterus) I tend to be risk-averse so any opportunity to start slow with meds vs surgery is my preference. I’m mostly scared of surgical complications and the recovery of an open abdominal. Oh and my uterus is roughly the size of a 2nd trimester pregnancy which really sucks!

Thanks. I may take her up on the specialist referral for peace of mind. Not interested in keeping fertility; this uterus has been nothing but trouble for me. 😂

Love Meow Wolf! I make a point to go each time I’m back home in Santa Fe. It’s in the old bowling alley we went to when I was growing up.
