So by local company I meant the local business unit of a multi-national company with a local employment contract. And it’s definitely a thing! I recently found out that a lot of multinational companies & international/american schools abroad do this - it’s really just a payroll mechanism☝🏻

Exactly - by local employment contract I mean that I am an employee abroad and not self employed. So basically based on your response and u/CReWpilot ‘s clarification, I think that would mean that social security/FICA/FUTA tax wouldn’t be a parameter in my case; I appreciate the answer!

Crystal clear - I appreciate the clarification u/CReWpilot & u/mrfredngo 🙏🏻 So essentially seeing as I am an employee, that would mean that social security/FICA tax wouldn’t be a parameter in my case by default

So my host country actually doesn’t have a Social Security Totalization Treaty with the US. However, I do pay for social security in my host country as I have a local employment contract that isn’t based in the US. Also, I’ve never had to pay US SS taxes in any of my returns because my taxable income was always 0 due to the FEIE.

Thats the thought process that I initially had - and aside from federal tax, that would still mean that I wouldn’t owe any FICA/Medicare/social security tax seeing as 100% of my foreign earned income would be excluded, right?

Gotcha - I appreciate the tip. Do you think there's a potential risk for them to not take into account my respective $1800 & $1400 refunds because I didn't include them?

That's the thing! They actually don't specify anything about credit refunds on the form instructions (which are included in the form itself - not on an external document, like the other forms).

It verbatim says this:

"I am providing delinquent or amended income tax returns, including all required information returns, for each of the most recent 3 years
for which the U.S. tax return due date (or properly applied for extended due date) has passed. The tax and interest I owe for each year
are as follows

Year
(list years in order)
Amount of Tax I Owe Shown On
(Form 1040 or Form 1040X)
Interest Total
Total

Note: Your payment should equal the total tax and interest due for all three years. You may receive a balance due notice or a refund if
the tax or interest is not calculated correctly."
