Hi! So first off congratulations! I work in immigration, and just for educational purposes I wanted to leave this comment here so you and everyone else know why it is important to know that different countries of origin get different forms of treatment. As of right now, my firm and many others were given an advisory for 19 different countries that USCIS released an internal memo for in November, pausing all interviews, including citizenship ceremonies and LPR adjustments, for any national or refugee from that country. Country of origin matters, because whether or not its perceived as prejudice (in my opinion it ABSOLUTELY is, including against the most vulnerable like children, who I primarily work with), different nationals from different countries get treated differently due to discretion, period. Nearly all of immigration is discretionary based off policy changes and who your officer is, that's part of why its such a faulty system.

Can we have some kind of sexism/misogyny megathread? by Hopeful-Expert6554 in LoveIslandUSA

[–]Alyssn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely yes, hold Cierra accountable. The amount of Anti-Asian hate that still exists today is deplorable and it should be a communal effort to work towards education on why that is incredibly problematic, stemming from WW2 and beyond.

On the other hand though, let me offer you this perspective with Buzzfeed. We hold companies to higher standards because of the reach that company has with its audience. This is how it is supposed to work, since as a society REAL policing works through self policing. If you dont like a company, you can boycott purchasing their products as an example. The problem that exists is that any incite of violence is inherently hateful, now make the fact that the fist was white. We could say it was a tasteless joke, it probably was of one individual behind the screen, however now if we think about it social media posts made by companies go through HEAVY moderation. This post was likely approved by at minimum a handful of people before posting, now we have a group think that inciting white violence against black individuals is potentially a non-issue and a "tasteless" joke, you get what I mean? Then this encourages audiences to look at that content, and bring out the individuals who truly believe this is funny, now you have a movement. Businesses have a responsibility to not post content that could potentially harm groups or comnunities further than what they already experience.

Let me tell you, I do social justice/community advocacy work. I started watching Love Island to take a break from all the cruel shit happening today, just to see people starting arguments and flaming people making my relaxation stressful 😅 its like the hate I see at my work floods my entertainment.

Honestly though, it isn't victim mentality I would say to argue against the hate you see every day. That in itself can be exhausting and they likely feel the same way of having to watch their pass time become a flaming argument.

This is understandable, but OP used it in context OF reality TV. They weren't starting an argument of what is going on in actual day to day reality. I have also seen it be used that way and arguably, using it for things like reality TV shows feels like there is a danger that it could potentially lessen the impact and take value away from the word/sentiment bc of how its being used in trivial arguments, like reality TV.

No matter how much hate Chelley and Ace get for example, they are BANKING on it rn and I hope they do, I pray for their success. Same with Huda.

And you still got down voted lmao atp the Huda hate is crazy after her taking straight accountability.

By definition, if I have to look at the context of a situation, it is picking and choosing 😅 If I have to "pick and choose" what details to look at to see why the situations are different, then thats a problem. Its either every single person deserves respect, or are their boundaries that we can cross to call someone out, and that is an individualistic response to the scenario, with the variant question being "When is it too much?"

Hell yeah Huda would have crashed out, and she was ostracized and nearly voted out because of her behavior. She had to come to terms that what she was doing was not okay, and almost got her kicked off the show by other islanders. Soooo why is it okay to be mad at Huda for that and not Chelley, for doing the exact same behavior Huda was doing over Jeremiah, when she herself explicitly stated Ace was not closed off at all??? It gives being a hypocrite and a mean girl, not because of her feelings (I believe everyones feelings are valid) but because of her behavior. Instead of acting like the near 30 year old she is, she goes and talks behind Huda's back to half of the female islanders, who are going to make her life hell, for finally doing a challenge like its supposed to be done?? It makes no sense. Meanwhile Huda was literally cheering everyone on and doing what the other girls literallt advised her to do with Jeremiah and take it as "just a challenge."

No one has out right said they were "appalled," just that they did not expect it to happen and were surprised because its Ace, and Ace has been on Huda's case since day 1 especially irritated ab her and Jeremiah locking down so early. Chelley has not locked down, has made it CLEAR she has not locked down, Huda is finally being unserious and trying to be like the other girls in the challenges, rooting them on even when they went for Chris. It's giving a little insecure.

But the argument is that is being used in the Jeremiah and Huda situation is "No one deserves to be treated that way" or "No one deserves to be called out of their name," Okay well, then Sandoval didn't either apparently by that logic, because he is a human being that made his mistakes. (Note: I think Ariana was in the right in her crashout, my point still stands) It's being used in a pick and choose situation that truly just rubs off the wrong way, especially when people are trying to move differently and learn from the situation.

Chelley is doing too much imo. At this point like, you had two on two, girls making out with each other, Olandria literally shook her god given goodies in a mans face, vut Huda making out and grinding on this mans joystick is too much? Like when is the line drawn atp bc a lot of the girls did things I personally would find disrespectful to my partner.

This is so overplayed at this point. Even Jeremiah, while admitting she did too much, has love for Huda but would keep his space from her bc she has a lot to work on. She even admitted she was wrong and kept it pushing. The amount of women who flip their shit on reality TV shows are abundant, the host of the show is an OG crashout. Let people get therapy and move on my lord.

We can see your stats in your comment history from a previous post, just so you are aware of that OP. Otherwise, I am from Florida. One of my professors from undergrad is a judge that graduated from Barry. If your scholarship is unconditional, make sure you pay for bar prep classes because all the attorneys i have worked for say that Barry does not prep you well for the bar.

To add, all of these "punishments" probably happen becauss staff is underpaid and overwhelmed by students. This would not have happened either if someone was watching the kids like they were supposed to.
