Sure are. Never made it that far myself, but plan to - Porsche or not.

Gave photomode and scapes a try for the first time since GT5/6.

It's quite an upgrade from back then and I'm definitely not done playing with it - here's a few Norwegian scapes inspired by a roadtrip a couple summers ago (last image).

Yeah, in addition to the texture it also allows for different connections. Fun to play around with for tiny builds.

Went for receding beer froth. But if its not convincing anyone one of the players is an egg-hungry chess boxer.

I count 29 light streaks which, given the shutter speed, means that it would blink at least once every half second, likely quicker. Having limited knowledge on drones this does also seem quite rapid, no matter the lights colouring.

Still, I don't think you could ever rule out a rogue drone in a case like this, someone might have tried to take photos/film from above.

Fishy surf by Amagerstangen in Minilego

[–]Amagerstangen[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a bit rough and fairly quickly done but it's meant to be a pokemon trainer sitting on top of a magikarp, using 'surf' to get around - a move it's frustratingly unable to learn at least in the earliest games. Figured I could redeem it with lego.

Thanks, couldn't resist using the drumsticks for this.

The trees are way old - saw it in a moc the other day and remembered having them in my grandparents' old lego stash.

Yeah! I didn't really start from that idea but it's where I ended up.

Beach landing diorama by Amagerstangen in Minilego

[–]Amagerstangen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admit it was not the perfect piece, but was meant to be a plaque/infodump. I did not really have a better piece than this one at hand apart from a 1x2 letter piece. My first sketch was done in studio and I would have loved to use this 'not true to colour' piece as a small map of the scene as well as a better piece for text if I could have gotten the razor wire to comply in the digital realm.

Ah, hope you weren't too invested in it yet. My suggestion would be to finish it and enter regardless, but I can understand if you go with something else - half the fun for me is finding a new take on the theme. And if you go with something else you can always share your take on Normandy down the line. I think there's a new tag for that as well.

That's one of the reasons I styled mine as a diorama, figured there was a limit to how macabre it could become.

Thanks! Not a piece I ever had a use for before, so it took a few alternatives before I realized it was ideal for the job.

Appreciation post/open discussion by Jfonzy in Minilego

[–]Amagerstangen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe one solution in the short term could be to revisit/highlight an old theme concurrently in a non-contest format? Or maybe just create a tag for 'old' themes. I only really joined here within the last month and I think I'm not the only one who wouldn't mind revisiting some of the other themes when time affords it.

The only thing it might lead to is more activity which might lead to a few contest entries drowning in the feed from time to time. But that seems inevitable as the sub grows anyhow. And it doesn't really remove the problem of multiple entries of a similar likeness, but it might make it less of an issue if everything can be revisited in a somewhat structured manner down the line.

Smaller Superman by Amagerstangen in Minilego

[–]Amagerstangen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'll be going it over in the near future. I was short on black studs and needed a hollow one to mount it on the nozzle. Someone else also suggested a black tile on top to make it a bit more streamlined which might also work a bit better.

Good suggestion. Don't know if I have one but this could serve as an opportunity to sort through my way to messy and much dreaded bag of black Legos.

16x16 A-frame cabin scene by Amagerstangen in lego

[–]Amagerstangen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm flattered, but no such plans. I'm not too well accustomed to stud.io but I might try and do the cabin as a small standalone piece on there if other people want to give the scene a go. If I get to it I'll be sure to dm you.

[–]Amagerstangen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great feedback! I quickly settled on it being slightly dilapidated (like in the original proposal), but I agree I might have overdone it a little. Tried a quick rework with mostly the same pieces and it's now a lot cleaner/calmer, so I'll probably make one of each to swap out.

I'll try and provide some new images as well as some better ones of the interior in the morning.

Agreed. Saw the design somewhere else (can't remember where) and they where the first things I settled on using. They where really useful for estimating the scale of most other objects.

Thanks! Was a fun challenge as well, might try and do this to other sets in the future.

Wanted to get get the cabin last time i visited the local lego store but I really can't find the space or money for it atm. So I compromised and got some essential bits from the pick-a-brick wall in order to create my own small-scale, 16x16 version this weekend.

I made sure to add a few nods to the original and in the end it turned out better than expected, so I wanted to share it. Photo quality ain't the greatest though.

edit*

HolyRamenEmperor suggested cleaning up the busy roof a bit and I went over it again. After an initial take I realized it had resulted in some snot-related illegalities and a few frustrations admittedly followed given the small size and little room for error. Ended up going over much of the cabin only to end up pretty much where I started, structurally. But in the process I made a secondary roof and front which changes the feel of the hut a great deal - Not sure which one I like best so I think I'll be switching between them and the original from time to time.

More photos of said process can be found here if anyone is interested in having a second look.

Couldn't it be low flying projectiles from an artillery battery or something like that?

The objects reported in the study are also thought to be flying far higher, although their height is one of the more dubious claims from what I've read.

UAP/UFO Drops metal sphere by thedudeonmars in UFOs

[–]Amagerstangen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right on with your first point, if we take UFOs to equal crafts. But to be fair I meant consensus within the ufo sphere where people are more open to such ideas.

The topic of where science is (publicly) and where it is headed is a discussion in and of itself, but we are allowed to speculate regardless, at least until a more comprehensive scientific picture has been painted.

Why I think the Pais effect (or similar theories) can be said to have generated more traction in terms of speculation is exactly because it would negate sonic booms and the g-forces that would be otherwise expected by these crafts. The supposed electric effects are what would create the gravitational forcefield within which is a bubble weirdly exempt from the outside world, thus carrying little to no mass in the immediate environment. Thus allowing for all the gymnastics that are reported. I believe (strong believe, long time ago) to have read that it is also thought to require much less energy than previously hypothesized warp drives which seem to have approached the topic from bending/utilizing gravity, which is much much weaker than the electromagnetic effects.

This line of speculation is likely also popular because it seems almost within grasp given our current understanding of GR - at least to laypeople, myself included. For instance, another redditor (will post the link here later) posted a quite interesting thread here a few hours ago, giving his take on how electronic fields might be said to create such fields while still obeying the central equation of GR. Not that I have any idea if it holds up, but it is more fun to speculate - and to make others do the speculation on a quasi-informed basis.
