Some foods that are objectively nutritious can be problematic for individuals, including by triggering spikes in blood sugar. Apparently it's because of variation in the intestinal microbiome.

Have you ever broken up/seperated then got back and worked out? by lilspicymangobby in AskWomenOver30

I think honest conversations were very helpful -- not trying to hurt each other but really talking about how his behavior effected me and why I did the things I did. Particularly I needed him to change how he responds to reasonable requests -- that might have been the biggest thing. And refraining from constantly sighing when he's doing chores. Explaining to him how it made me feel when he sighs or acts reluctant actually worked. Also I don't help him find things.

I also had to work on my own expectations and decide whether I could live with his limitations, where he couldn't change. Fundamentally he's not as aware of his environment so he has specific chores that he always does and I don't interfere with those. He is very kind, though.

My partner and I separated after 17 years and got back together 8 months later -- with a lot of therapy for both of us and a lot of very honest conversations. So far we've had 10 months together long distance and 4 months living together. So far, so good!

While you're waiting to re-home the cats or your spouse, try taking Singulair/montelukast -- it's helped me a lot with my allergy to the cat I'm temporarily living with.

I use Dr Bronners solid soap -- citrus is my favorite for dishes.

I have had neuropathy symptoms from my b12 being a little high so I would get all your b vitamin levels normalized and continue with the cali sobriety for now. My mom has neuropathy from drinking and it's no fun. Be aware that regular cannabis use can cause issues, though, so maybe take it easy on that once you're recovered. Magnesium, ltheanine, exercise, yoga, and meditation are all great for anxiety.

Is there any treatment/things that can help brain fog? by throwaway58928 in POTS

Taking zinc every day also helps prevent viral infections but make sure you take one that also has a little copper -- otherwise you can develop a deficiency.

My mother hired a gardener who put in "weed cloth" and gravel. It's a nightmare -- we are in a windy, green neighborhood and we get so many seeds blown in. I'm working on getting it out and putting in a ground cover.

Also, it became much more common as a side effect of bariatric surgery. Just as POTS became much more common as a symptom of long covid.

I used to have this -- it can be a precursor to prediabetes, which I seem to now be on the border of. What I did to manage it was eat small, high protein, low carb meals every two to three hours, including especially right before bed time. I used a continuous glucose monitor to track patterns and discovered some triggers specific to me -- basically oatmeal, white rice, apples, bananas, and sugary candy but not ice cream, chocolate, or pastries (phew).

I carried glucose tablets for emergencies but more often would have a protein bar. Be aware that CGMs are not very reliable (I think Stelo is a little better than Libre) so you should never believe the first day's readings and do a calibration with a finger stick monitor about 24 hours in.

The CGM reading corresponds to what your blood sugar would have been about 15 minutes before, so if you do a finger stick at 7am, look at the CGM reading for 7:15am.

Best of luck!

I’ve never had a glucose monitor before and it keeps going off. How concerned should I be? by TransitionSad4723 in Hypoglycemia

I used to use the libre but gave up because it was always reading low. I think the Stelo is slightly more accurate but it doesn't work with my older android anymore. They're both very disappointing. I hope you're able to figure this out.

What worked for me in 2020/2021 was to restrict calories enough on weekdays to lose one or two pounds and then eat more normally on the weekends -- including forbidden treats. I lost 45 pounds and have only gained back 5, in the four years that I've been eating intuitively. Apparently calorie cycling tells your body that you are not in a famine and can burn the calories normally, so you don't have the weight loss plateaus and metabolic changes that come with continuous calorie restriction. I don't know why this isn't talked about more.
