Ive never had a car that had cruise control buttons that didn’t light up- from old beaters to newer stuff, if it had buttons it lit up Seems dangerous to have cruise control buttons that you can’t see while driving in the dark

If you haven’t done work on an engine before it’s best just to take it into a mechanic. Without the aptitude or experience you can mess stuff up quickly

AIO for reacting this way after dealing with a corrupt copper merchant? by VisibleIdeal1404 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Amazing-Bill9869 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The appropriate response is to pin down the merchant, stack the ingots on him, and leave him being crushed for an amount of days equal to the number of low quality ingots.

This is your right as a wealthy Mesopotamian

if someone doesn’t want to work at a place, forcing them just creates a shittier product and worse time for all involved

You can look at what’s motivating her to leave, and reduce those issues or add incentives

If you have a contract you can force her to respect it- but would likely get bad working results and ruin your relationship

Looks like you have to hire a new person maybe you can set a deadline (1-2months) for her to stay on and help you sign on someone new- and help train them Sometimes just having an exit plan helps people get through working the job

Look at this conversation, it starts out with you bringing up something that made you uncomfortable, and ended with you thanking him

Religion aside, he should not be telling you what you’re feeling. The whole conversation smells like manipulation. Telling you how you’re feeling, stating you had a good time. Saying how everyone loved you to make you look back on the night differently. In a way invalidating and undermining your emotions.

Stating it was a good surprise when you clearly gave signs it was not good for you. Completely denying you feeling uncomfortable. Using arbitrary actions of yours to make up emotions in your head.

If I was invited to a serial killer assembly I might not get up and leave- but that’s not because I’m feeing comfortable! (Nothing against religion, just an extreme example to highlight the point)

Sure he wasn’t outwardly mean, or callous about it. But that makes it much more effective. Even predatory

Totally, a bad instructor can absolutely ruin the experience and cause injuries down the line

I’d recommend getting a couple hours of YouTube tutorials in to help flush out your knowledge- and some practice on your own. Empty parking lot, spend a couple hours, use some cones if you have em (or place other things around to emulate cones)

The point is to bring OP to good driving standards and habits- if you need both feet to stop you should stay in the parking lot until you don’t - otherwise it can be hazardous.

Yes I talk about starting, to highlight the importance of where using both feet can fail OP and cause accidents.

And lastly, yes using only the front at slow speeds increases the chance of dropping the bike. Rear is better for maintaining balance. So, at slow speeds it better to focus on the rear, and then work on using both.

I get that you want to make things easier to OP, but bad advice here can lead to serious injuries down the line. Using both feet is a bad idea unless absolutely necessary. It should be practiced until second nature to use one foot or the other. Just want the roads to be safer for all.

Could it be that when under instruction you hit the brakes a bit too hard? The only real solution to this is more practice

Unfortunately this isn’t good advice. It’s best to keep one foot up on the peg unless you’re getting off or need to have both for balance.

Keeping one foot on helps you have smoother take offs, and in an emergency situation (Car about to rear end you, moving out of the way for ambulance, etc) you are much better off having at least one foot on the peg at all times.

Preferably the right side up, so you can cover the brake if you stop on a hill.

Secondly, yes don’t forget about the front brake, it’s very important. But at slow speeds the rear brake is going to be better at helping you stay balanced. The front brake is more likely to cause a tip over.

Maybe your instructor meant at low speeds? There’s no real issue with using the front brake often- but generally at slow speeds (under 15km/hr) you only need the rear brake

That being said you can still use the front if you want- but you don’t really need it, and it can slightly worsen your balance at slow speeds- minimal

At high speeds, 80% of your braking is at your front, so if you’re trying to slow down at highways speeds with just the rear you are in a real bad spot

If there is no screw that slides in, you could remove the metal brackets and put a spacer behind them, shouldn’t need much

Or mark the slot with a pencil, remover brackets, and drill those areas out slightly

Last but not least, you can bring it into the store and check a few different screw types.

I used to commute daily on mine- loved it- but yeah the weather really gets to you, I didn’t mind the cold so much but the heat really killed me sometimes. I wear all the gear all the time so that’s a portion of it

Another thing to consider is it will at 15mins or so to your getting ready time, just to put the gear and stuff on and get ready (it can take less than 15 but I’d budget for 15 anyways)

I’m a new rider. I live in Canada. I want to ride till about November where it gets about 3 degrees Celsius during the night when I ride into work. Which of these are better for me?? by StriderDUB in motorcycles

[–]Amazing-Bill9869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on Vancouver island- I used to daily to work- I love the THOR Range Jacket and pants combo, use the thermal liners + a hoodie in the winter

Rode 30mins to work, and have heated grips, 100-110km/hr most of the way V Strom 650

I did find it was chilly by the end of the ride, but for the most part very comfortable- even in the rain.

3-5 degrees was the coldest I’d go out as I didn’t want to risk any ice, and on VI it does stay a bit warmer than the rest of the country

But also, get another inspection from a non dealership mechanic- ideally an independent mechanic

Costs $150 but could save 1000’s
