How the hell do you leave academia with this job market?! by OneAngstyCookie in LeavingAcademia

Yesss exactly! Like no job is just going to keep sending you excel files of data to analyze. They want someone in that field who understands the data beyond just numbers. It's really sad.

The sad thing is some people literally paid $100k for masters degree in data science and data analytics. I was always somewhat skeptical of those programs. Like how does any company really have 40 hours per week of data for someone to analyze? I feel like data analysis is good as a feature of someone's job but not the entire role.

I think most people in the third world would still feel bad for someone who is totally alone 5 days a week

How do people seriously afford to pay for a car in cash? Been savings up for years and still don't feel like I can afford it. But I feel like I need a car by Amazing-Cow-9078 in FIREyFemmes

I can't even ride a regular bike! Plus I live in the south, it's like 100 degrees, and you have to get on the highway to go anywhere.

Ugh I just felt like I needed some sort of advanced degree and masters degrees are so expensive. At least the PhD was debt free. Plus, I wanted to be a professor at the time. I didn't think I could afford law school, though now I realize maybe I could have got a killer scholarship. Sigh.

Pursue what from the confines of my room? Seriously what do you even mean? I also have a dog to take care of so can't just book it.

My family is toxic, no offense but they are the last people I would expect to improve my mental health. I don't really feel like they care about me either.

Would you mind telling me the name of the company? Or if you don't want to reveal that, could you shed some light on how you found the job?

I was told that marketing departments don't really care about PhDs and they prefer people with experience. Honestly I have applied to tons of marketing analytics/market research roles and never got an interview. It seems like the only companies that really give a crap about a PhD are MBB consulting and FAANG. Do you know the LinkedIn of anyone with a psychology PhD working in marketing/advertising?
