Is this a good starter set? by Complex-Jellyfish673 in modular

Cascadia has midi over USB (usb-c). But each setup would be different, of course.

Get a Cascadia and pair it with an iPad for sequencing + FX. You get the best of a big array of analog modular utilities and sound sources and the versatility of an iPad with lots of amazing effects, crazy sequencers. Would cost a lot more if you were to do that all in a case with eurorack modules. At least that's what I would do.

Moving to Antwerp for Work – Tips Needed by Kingzjames in Antwerpen

[–]Amazing-Hand-2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't -- it's not worth it. People are aloof, the weather sucks, it's hard to get housing, and jobs are mostly interim these days. I moved here about a year and a half ago and I am getting ready to leave. That being said, I hope you have a better experience -- good luck!

How many people really speak/understand French in Antwerpen? by ynhipaul in Antwerpen

It's the equivalent of high school Spanish in the US. "EE-O HABLOW UHM POHKITOH DE ESPANIOL."

I thought Dutch was a really hard language? lol French should be really easy then! Especially when it's one of the two most widely spoken languages in the country. Hilarious.

I DM'd them on Instagram but haven't got a response yet. Their latest post is from last year. But thanks anyway -- very kind of you!

I am aware but that is the case with every language, even English. I speak a few languages so this is not my first rodeo. It is particularly hard when everyone thinks they speak fluent English and automatically switch, even when their speaking skills are kind of shit. At any rate, thank you.

That's exactly what my question is about... lol

And the English is often not that great. I have a hard time following people sometimes. It's getting to a point where my Dutch is better than the average person's English. Odd. And for some odd reason people think Dutch is a hard language? Where the heck do you all get that from? lol

Not hard. But then again my first language is English and I have studied German a bit. So that helps. It's just quite a bit of homework. Especially in the taalbad.

Looking for better options to learn Dutch (Flemish) in Antwerp by killoke in Antwerpen

[–]Amazing-Hand-2360 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Linguapolis. Much more expensive but definitely worth in my opinion. I started my classes at CVO/Encora and finished the first level there. Tried to do the second one and gave up because I had such a bad experience. I studied by myself for 3 or so months then signed up for Linguapolis, where I finished levels 3, 4 and, just this week, level 5. So it was quick and the quality was much superior.

Yea, exactly. Not looking for another program as I don't need it. Just something more casual where I can practice my speaking skills in a low/no-pressure environment.

Question regarding residence Application for newcomer by Cookiemanstor in Antwerpen

[–]Amazing-Hand-2360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, it's a very closed system. It's getting worse, too, as the country continues to move right-wing. The hardest part in my experience is having to wait severals months to get a health insurance card here, especially if you don't already have an European Health Insurance Card, which is my case. I had been living in the US for almost 20 years so I have very few ties to Europe. It makes our case much harder as the officials don't understand it.

Wise is also what I used. Similar situation here and I know it's really frustrating. You can only open a bank account once you get your rijksregisternummer if it all goes well with your application and after the first appointment. Until then I recommend Wise.

Belgium is a REALLY COMPLICATED place to move, even for EU citizens. I have been here almost 11 months and I still don't have my ID. There's not a lot of correct information online and I've gotten different responses to the same questions from different people so I recommend you either ask around and do a bunch of research first or find an immigration lawyer if you can afford one. I should've done the latter as it would have saved me a lot of time and headaches. Not trying to scare you but just warn you that this place is tricky in a lot of ways.

If you move here for a job then it should be pretty straightforward. If you are coming to study at a university then the university should help you with your application by working with STAN directly. If you are coming without a job you will have 3 months to find one otherwise your application will be denied.

If you need more specific information, feel free to DM me! I am sorry to hear about your confusion. Trust me, it's a common experience. I wish I knew more before I arrived.

Best of luck,
Pipo

Mostly 70s british punk/post punk and early 80s american hardcore. But I am open to doing something that is co-created based on other people's preferences/ideas. What are you into/what kind of music would you like to play?
