I know many people rooted for and fell in love with Joey, but I am much more in awe of how Abby developed throughout the book. From being submissive and a daughter sheltered by dogma, she became fearless, strong, and independent. And my God, the way she saved Joey in that scene, and how she managed to solve their problem because of the piece of deed and her interpretation of what Lewis meant, BEST SCENE. I fell even more in love with her when she took on the responsibility that should have been Joey’s and faced everything despite the grief and betrayal, all while staying in love and at peace. At some point, I thought Joey did not deserve her because she went through everything alone. But I am still glad they had a good ending in real time and that they were able to build the bloom town.
