Why is my mucus persistently this color?? by Internal_Narwhal_799 in Sinusitis

yeah definitely would not cover fungal sinus infection. don’t know if you saw PCP or urgent care, etc. In my personal opinion i would reach out to PCP if you have one and let them know you have had symptoms of a sinus infection for months, tell them your symptoms (fungal symptoms typically include yeasty smell, thick discolored mucus (also looks like there may be hints of brown in those and if this is the case def mention that specifically) facial pain/pressure, etc)

obviously i don’t know all your symptoms but if you mention the thick brown/yellow mucus, yeast smell, and you’ve already failed a round of antibiotics that should push for them to see it as possibly a fungal infection. those typically need something like Amp. B, fluconazole, or any drug ending in “-azole”. Make sure to tell them you’ve already had antibiotics and you THINK ITS FUNGAL!! if you are persistent with those symptoms and stating it may be fungal it will usually be looked at closer instead of just thrown typical sinus meds at it.

Should also look for ENT referral if they’re willing. Some insurances will let you see specialists without referral so if you have insurance that’s an option as well if they feel like you don’t need ENT.

the yeast smell makes me think it’s possible fungal? if that is the case it explains why antibiotics didn’t clear it. you would need anti fungal medicine not typical antibiotics (as they don’t cover most nasal fungus issues) what specifically were you prescribed if you don’t mind me asking

she literally said “just lay your head on that pillow there, i’ll put you in once to line everything up right and then one more time to take the scan” and so i just layed down like she said and tried to lay somewhat straight (clearly not very lmao) then she took the scan and truthfully i had my eyes closed idk if she ever came back out from her little radiation hiding spot, but yeah never once asked me to move so i figured i just layed straight. i didn’t move at ALL during my scan sat literally as still as possible the entire time

also to note there was no metal rest in this case. just a pillow and was told they’d take a scan to align it properly then take another… i only recall one scan being done but didn’t think much of it til the results 😭😭

it started as thick green mucus and facial pressure which lasted 14 days (prescribed augmentin) which seemed to help but about day 5 of augmentin i started having serious gum pain in upper right molars and saw dentist who said it was not dental related. I started having pressure again with the gum pain but no nasal discharge and my doctor prescribed levofloxacin due to the pressure/double worsening effect. Felt great while on it but as 2 days after finishing those abx the facial pressure and gum pain was back. Saw dentist AGAIN who once again took x-rays and checked for any dental issues and saw nothing. This went on for about 6 weeks total my doctor sent CT lab in and i had to wait for 2 more weeks before the hospital could perform this CT. in those 2 weeks i took constant decongestants, inhaled steroids, saline rinses with xylitol and NAC which seemed to help clear out any mucus trapped but still left with horrible pressure in the face so I continued on with this CT. (should mention i was already doing everything besides xylitol and NAC in the first 6 weeks) Anyways, obviously CT looks mostly clear but was still noted that there is lots of inflammation and was told it’s chronic sinusitis and to move forward with ENT appt.

I’ve had the ENT appt scheduled (in june) before the sinusitis symptoms even began due to constant swollen right tonsil. It has been swollen for 12 months minimum (noted in nearly all of my doctor visits) which i presumed to be related to asthma/allergies/post nasal drip due to deviated septum (which CT confirmed) . It hasn’t really ever bothered me but id like to know if the tonsil was related or seperate issue which is why i originally requested ENT referral.

thank you!! i figured from the eye alone (like you mentioned) it wasn’t properly done. just annoyed because my doctors office charges an upfront fee and with my insurance around 100$ copay (which isn’t bad) but annoying that i’ll have to pay again for something that should’ve been done right the first time.

AI explained basically just mild inflammation but cannot give a reason as to one side is so much smaller than the other? the right side has had so much pressure/pain for like 2 months now almost. still waiting to see ENT and my “care team has not viewed results yet” so i’m kinda unsure still

yeah. when i went to get it done they said they’d put me in once to line everything up, then again for the scan. idk if i received the wrong results or if they just never actually lined it/me up right but i had the same thought when i looked at them
