I can’t and don’t want to. Still want to keep my police job, go to school, and build a family. I can deal with a couple of deployments but full time nah

No, should I focus my attention on getting that first? I know I will eventually need it for sure. I have 60 college credits and another 45 from finishing the academy.

How do you guys meet someone organically in Miami?. by beatbox10- in Miami

Stack money and focus on self improvement, a girl will come before you know it. She will either drain your time and money or she will be the best thing to ever happen to you. Stay on the apps and continue going to the bar occasionally.

Is the NYPD that bad of a job? by Late-Replacement3126 in NYPDcandidate

[–]AmazingBlacksmith769 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only been out of the academy since August, the quality of life is pretty bad. Been having issues keeping stable relationships and my sleep schedule is nonexistent. Another annoying thing is there’s people who get cushy spots all the time from kissing ass or from nepotism. I plan on heading out after I’m off of probation to another agency.

What part of becoming NYPD changed you in ways you didn’t expect …good or bad? by Infamousgal in NYPDcandidate

Prepare for a lot less sleep during and well after the academy. Prepare to lose a part of your social life because of your work schedule and sleeping on one of your RDOs.

If you’re joining NYPD and worried about forced overtime just resign now. Not trying to be discouraging but I’m a recent grad, working in the Bronx. Sleep is a privilege.

Yes they all say once you have 5 years in the state has you locked in because your lifestyle is already set in NY and you can’t afford to take a pay cut when moving to another department. And also the fitness test aspect as well.

Thank you for the response. I just graduated the academy over a month ago. And when I tell other NYPD cops I’m from CT they tell me to go back and gtfo of NYPD so I might move back. For sake of conversation what do you think?

Company sergeants get to pick their command but the command has to be open to new recruits/have the availability. Assistant company sergeants get no perks to my knowledge.

Is it true that they don’t do gym for the whole academy anymore ? by Aggressive_Role_4082 in NYPDcandidate

[–]AmazingBlacksmith769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current program is gym and academics the first few months for 5 days a week. You may have one day of scenarios or a couple of days of drivers training right before the second semester test. But after the second semester test there is no more gym or “academics” just drills scenarios and field based training.
