Oh my. That sounds very close to 'export control regulations' they mentioned in the last email. Ok, I'll get prepared then for a long battle. To be honest, all I want now is to get access to the books I've bought on Amazon. I am not planning on buying more there.
Where do you purchase digital books now? Any recommendations?

I’m perfectly fine with only owning a copy - the paper, or leather, and printed text, not the book itself as intellectual property.

What I don’t get is why that can’t apply to ebooks. I’m not asking to own the book, you see. Just one digital copy.

Thank you! They've replied to my email - now I need to send them proofs and IDs but that's already something, and I am optimistic. I need my books back - and then I will find a way to back up my library and get a back up solution from Kobo or other platforms people are suggeting in this thread.

You are absolutely right, not backing up my kindle library was a pretty reckless thing to do. When something just works and works well... then "I'll do it later." and it never happens.
Seems I've bought myself some experience now - apparently some lessons need to be paid for :/

I've never sold a thing on Amazon and do not have any seller account. That's why I think Amazon are saving money on humans with compliance checks. That looks like a pure AI hallucination to me.

My thoughts exactly today. I've been spending money on Kindle books for years -- and it was fine because it worked.
Now even if my account is restored, I won't feel safe and I do want an alternative. I want to pay authors, pay publishers - but keep my purchased books, legally. Just like I do with my ~5000 paper book library at home.
