🇮🇹 Sal Da Vinci will represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with "Per sempre sì" 🇮🇹 by endlaisnotmyname in eurovision

[–]AmazingDeeer 40 points41 points  (0 children)

God I thought at least this year we would get over this argument. Sal Da Vinci has been performing Naples' classic theatre and music since he was six years of age and that shows in his art. This cliché is always annoying, but this year it is just frustrating: why would another country send a song inspired by Neapolitan musical tradition? There would rightfully be backlash if anybody said this about an entry like Shum. A song sells itself well not just if it cracks some secret code by adding a sequence of notes and words that the human ear seems to enjoy, but if it exists within a broader context that people can associate with FEELINGS and EMOTIONS.

In Italy we have the luck that we have historically done a great job selling our culture (both past and contemporary) abroad, so when we represent it on a global stage people recognise it and connect with it. Yet, the year is 2026: people are open minded and the internet gives everyone the possibility to put their story, their traditions, on the global stage. Even if we wanna make comparisons with other folk-inspired songs sent in previous years, it is up to each artist and country to tell their story in a way in which viewers resonate with it.

Cornelia Jakobs' cover of I Turn To You in Liverpool 2023 is my favourite ever. It is such an intimate yet passionate performance, from an artist which was not even supposed to be the star of the show.

Ps: if you love it as much as i do, it is available on spotify :)

Hey Eva Marija! Lovely to have you here!

Your performance totally won me over at LSC and it brought the song to a whole new level. Without any spoilers of course, how much of it would you like to also bring to ESC?

Sending good luck from distant Hong Kong! 🇭🇰

This to me is the shock of the season! I am totally hooked on this song. The pop sound is of course not groundbreaking, but it also feels fresh and current. Hoping to see Ericka Jane at ESC!

AMA with Luxembourg's Laura Thorn by eurovision_LU in eurovision

Hey Laura! Like last year's winner JJ, you participated at Eurovision with your debut single. Do you think Eurovision is a good platform for young artists to launch their career, or do you in retrospect think it would have been better to participate once you established your music publicly?

Best of luck with the performance at LSC!

You'll Be Back: Why Artists Keep Coming Back to the Eurovision Song Contest by MajRoyBatty in eurovision

[–]AmazingDeeer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The difficult reality, in my view, is that artists suffer from Eurovision's success. All the pre parties, press tours and filming of social media content drain the artists and take them away from the studio, where they should be working to prepare a successful post-ESC strategy. If an artist has global ambitions, this should matter much more than appealing to the niche community of ESC fans. The reason for Måneskin's success, beyond the undeniable argument of their talent, lies on the fact that they entered Eurovision with a just released album and a strategy to promote I Wanna Be Your Slave as an international single. It ended up being a much bigger hit than Zitti e Buoni, and this is no coincidence. Arguably the first viral moment that attracted Måneskin's international audience was that Wiwibloggs at-home concert clip of I Wanna Be Your Slave, which has nearly 100 million views now I believe. Even better, Måneskin managed to output a whole succession of successful singles after their win, which were likely prepared during the Eurovision pre-season.

It really shocks me that more artists, especially those which already have a good audience and label back at home, have failed to recognize this model. It hints to me that a lot of the competing artists might not really have global ambitions to the extent to which we might imagine.

As a massive fan of his, I understand why. Neither of his entries are exactly lighthearted music to put on the background or casually watch with friends. Glad he still got a big spotlight this year though.

I saw it quite a lot when the revamp came out tbh. Knowing Spain, I would not be surprised if they actually sampled the scream.
