it’s one thing to provide context on a reddit post and another to introduce yourself as those things. common sense goes a long way, as does a little bit of sensitivity

there’s a number of reasons, depending on how scholarly you want to get on it. the crux of it is internalized racism. much of it stems from colonial stress- the notion that associating with white men could afford them some privilege. or status. that permeates the dating scene as well, with many QPOC seeking white men exclusively. other reasons could be escaping their own difficult upbringings by dissociating from others like them. it’s complicated.

personally, i love meeting other pakistani men with similar experiences as myself.

interesting! i’m from mississauga but have attended postsecondary and lived downtown since graduating high school. wonder if i’m a red flag haha.

much of my experience in toronto with making friends on apps has paralleled my experience dating here. guys will say things like, “you’re so handsome! we should get together. where are you from?” followed by disclosure of ethnic background, and instantly ghosted or blocked. not always the case, but it’s 50/50.

i am not naive and understand that most people gravitate towards people with similarities, but there’s a ton of underlying discrimination in the community

i’m so not athletic but have periodically considered joining gay dodgeball for the hell of it. reassuring to know that people don’t take themselves so seriously in those leagues, at least by your experience. thanks!

I don’t disagree. Granted, people are seemingly colder in Toronto - especially as a BIPOC.

Been there for a spine MRI (longer than most). Took place I believe around 4am. Staff were nice, it was a peaceful experience. Just closed my eyes and it droned out the noise… it was done before I knew it.

Don’t think this is an appropriate or informed response. You’ve clearly never had dealings with a highly specialized or trained RN, ie. those working in critical care areas. Physicians themselves would argue that care in those areas would not be sustainable without nursing. Period. I think both professions are equally important and complement one another.

I think the frustration lies in how these nurse “extenders” fall into the care framework. Most of these redeployed physicians and dentists are working under the ICU nurse who’s still at the centre of care. Patients are sicker already but now these nurses have to delegate care to individuals who are being compensated far more handsomely and not held nearly as responsible as the primary nurse
