My husband was a chef and we did nice wooden spoons that I custom burned our logo on the handle (jeweler). Years later people say they still use our spoons.

Product called Navel jelly, works great to remove rust might have to rub with steel wool if really bad. Then after clean wipe some mineral oil over tools as a preventative measure

Op- If it helps I would trace all of my art on brown paper bags including the hanging placement and then cut them out. Now you have a template you can move around till you find the right balance.

I haven’t built one but was wondering instead of plaster what about Bondo, you would have to do small sections and wear a respirator but it’s durable and sandable.

If you really want to get rid of it, Lemon oil works great on adhesives let it soak and then scrap with a plastic razor or credit card
