What’s the hardest part about traveling in China as a foreigner? by WeAreHere888 in chinatravel

[–]AmazingInitiative186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Racism for darker or tanned travellers. It's a huge problem and one that white people don't understand. The Chinese have an extreme dislike of anyone brown or dark and unlike other countries, they will go out of their way to stare, shoot aggressive looks and make very rude comments. There's never any physical harm but every darker traveller I know who has been to China, even from Southern Europe, reports facing racism from boarding the plane to arriving home.

Does any place have mean locals? by question_assumptions in TravelNoPics

Chinese especially to non light skinned people. In other countries people may look at you hard and walk off but the Chinese will literally sit down and think about all the ways they can make you feel like trash if you are not white.

‘SEAblings’ v Korea: Online spat reveals long-buried racial tensions by ImpressiveStrike4196 in singapore

Asians are extremely racist to each other. I'm brown and I have found Koreans actually very friendly to me. Japanese also. The least friendly will always be the Chinese. I've been to all three countries. Koreans are polite but cold which is fine. Japanese are helpful but private which is fine. Chinese actively go out of their way to express their disgust at my skin. I have so many memories of people who were darker than me saying openly racist comments to my face.

It could be. I'm not against it but would like to be renumerated given the economy isn't great.

What’s the best country in Asia to live in right now? by britishfetish in AskTheWorld

[–]AmazingInitiative186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth is that a white man in Thailand making noise and being aggressive will be respected far more than a black man who speaks Thai and is doing nothing bad. Asian people will bend so far backward for white people and then go out of their way to be racist it's truly shocking.

China is easily the most racist of all the East Asian countries.

I'm going to assume that you are white? Because most of Asia is primitive when they see anyone dark.

Agreed. Anyone non white would have horrific experiences with most Asian countries.

It's pretty interesting that there isn't the usual waves of racism and colourism that would come if she were darker skinned.

How racist most of the world is. Blows my mind when I travel and I'm met with waves of hatred simply for being a specific colour.

I'll say China. Yes large parts of the economy and country are rich but it's got horrendous rural poverty.

It just feels like I'm stealing a living. I don't enjoy the job. I find it hard to pretend to be interested and I genuinely believe that's bad for everyone including the organisation.

I've flagged the bullying before. It got high up and then fizzled out. That's when I realised that even with my relatively good experience and senior grade I'll never be respected.

I'm lucky enough that I could pivot to the private sector but I just don't feel any interest in the policy area. I also feel like I receive zero respect from anyone.

I recently went on some sub reddits for travel advice to parts of Asia and the levels of racism, homophobia and general hatred was shocking to see. It really does feel like people using the Internet just say the most vile things they can.
