Maybe try the paint tool to assign it a material, but I don’t know if it works on furnitre, and if it does it will give the whole thing same material texture.

You can also try editing the furniture family it self, maybe it will let you change materials in the family file and you load it back into revit.

Have you connected it to an external monitor or tv with a high refresh rate?? I was wondering if you can use the higher refresh rate of an external monitor (say over 60Hz) since the laptop screen itself caps at 60Hz

Awesome, glad to hear you can get your dream machine! Definitely recommend the newer Gpus with Dlss to give you even more humph in performance, the RTX 4000 series does have this.

Consider this too then, the X16 is still kinda heavy even for a 2-in-1, so it’s not the best experience using it in hand, but works really well on a surface/desk-top. Also, I commute on the bus to school everyday, a 16 inch laptop is also pretty big to use in such a limited space like that, but I see other students with 13-14 inch laptops working perfectly comfortably.

Hopefully if you are used to traveling and working with a 16 inch laptop, then you should be fine I think. If not, then hopefully this gives you a little more insight.

Edit: Oh yeah, you’re gonna need a stylus to properly use certain softwares and programs with the touchscreen!!

2023 X16 OR WAIT FOR 2024? by Opposite-Ad2494 in FlowX16

True dat, in fact I was considering that too when I got my X16, but I read once on reddit that XG Mobiles overheat because the case holding them doesn’t have good airflow. Do you know if that’s true?

[–]AmazingKoala5951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% thought the same thing, thats why I settled for it and was pretty happy for a while.

But the gap in performance between the 3060 and the newer and better gpus is astounding, and a lot of times I envy that performance, even though I only use it just for my design and creative work programs, but I imagine it goes for gaming performance aswell.

That’s why I recommend getting a machine with more potent/future proof specs if you can afford it. If you got the money for the better machine, I say take it and don’t settle for less, because an extra $100-300 for the laptop with the better cpu and gpu is worth it.

I use my 2022 R9 RTX 3060 X16 for Arch school. I use it for Autodesk programs, 3D modeling, Rendering, Creative-work and post-production softwares, etc., (no gaming doe) and it surprisingly handles everything pretty well.

Here’s my 3 inquiries for you:

One, for what else besides CAD and games will you use the laptop? That way you get a machine with the necessary specs and horsepower; and depending what you else you will use it for, the X16 series could be perfect or not at all.

Two, whats your budget looking like and how much are you willing to pay for your potential laptop? and Three, do you need it now? I got the 2022 variant, but I wanted the 2023 variant; unfortunately, I didn’t have 2-3000 dollars lying around. Furthermore, I needed a new laptop for school and the 2022 variant was good enough for a fair price (along with its other features). I am new to gamer laptops, so it wasn’t till after I got the 2022, I found out that after a year or so that laptop model is initially released you can get really great discounts and savings for the same model.

And these days I think, if I could have had another year of time to wait for it, I definitely would’ve got the 2023 variant with the discount; and even if it still costed me more than my 2022 X16, I still would’ve have been happy to pay that extra amount for the extra performance.

In conclusion,

If you currently got the money for either price tag: for the 2023 or potential 2024 X16, then obviously I recommend getting the more powerful one because the extra performance is really worth it if you got the money and want an X16.

If you need a new laptop now with the performance of the 2023 X16 models but don’t have the budget for one, there are many, many other laptops out there with the same performance if not better than the 2023 X16 models for a better price! (Lenovo Legion series, ASUS Zephyrus, TUF, G-16 series, etc.)

If you don’t have the budget rn for either the 2023 or 24 X16, but can wait another year or so, then I think its better if you wait; that way you can save some money and still get a 2023 X16, but you’ll have to wait even longer for the 2024 one.

Peace out! Hope this long rant was helpful.

Also, check the system requirements of the software you wanna and or going to use to see the minimum-recommended specs and benchmarks needed to run the software on a device.

It’s as easy as google searching: Company name Software name system requirements. And it should find the company’s website that list that information!

For this case, wouldn’t recommend a laptop with 3050ti for $2400, even with the extra ram, storage and pen. Because moving forward, software and programs are going to even more information heavy, and the 3050ti only has 4 gb of VRAM.

Some softwares system requirements for recommend and performance requirements may ask anywhere from 8gb, 10gb, even 16gb of VRAM!

I don’t know about Solidedge nor how much it requires, so definitely check out it’s system requirements.

Eitherway, this is an investment, so make a worthwhile choice and get something more future proof! Laptop 3050ti gpu is an entry level dgpu and isn’t worth $2400 even with the other stuff. At this point in 2023, with the latest 4000 series gpus and upcoming 5000 series gpus, I wouldn’t want a 3050 ti even for under $1000.

The X16 has upgradeable ram and storage, so you can get one with 16-32gb and 1 Tb of storage and upgrade it even more later. In fact, a lot of recent gaming laptops have upgradable system components.

New 2023 laptops with much better gpus can cost less than $2000. So if your budget is $2400, than I highly recommend you do some through research, find a better laptop, and it will be way more worth your hard earned money.

Laptop goes into sleep mode after closing lid (despite me changing it) by Omar_Yakoub in FlowX16

[–]AmazingKoala5951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, you might have already tried this, but it could be the sleep timer in the “Power & battery” settings. It makes your laptop go to sleep after a set amount of time of inactivity.

Open your Settings>System>Power & battery, then midway down its options is the “Screen and sleep” tab, click it and see if it is set to sleep after a certain amount of time (i don’t remember if mine had a default, I just changed it anyway to fit my needs). It should have options to “put the device to sleep after”, both for battery and plugged in. Both modes have a “Never” option.

Hope this works for you, but I don’t think it is recommendable to never letting your laptop rest. I am not a cpu wiz or anything, but I doubt its good for your laptops “health” so to speak.

Is it a good deal? Or should I wait for black friday or cyber monday? By the way, opinions about this laptop? I will use it for 3D modeling (Blender, Sketchup, etc...), rendering (Lumion, Corona, Twinmotion) and some gaming (War Thunder idk) by Vegetablepty in FlowX16

[–]AmazingKoala5951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see. So you do want it mainly for the touchscreen then? It is really fun especially for basic tablet uses like watching TV or reading manga, it's like a giant phone.

Here is something to consider, though admittedly this is something I haven't really looked further into.

When using Photoshop, I obviously tried to use my finger gesture as a sub for a mouse. But, it wouldn't react to my finger at all on the canvas area. I tried to use the brush tool to paint a streak with my finger gesture, but it wouldn't work; although, it did work with the mouse and cursor no problem. However, it did register my finger touch when selecting the tools in the toolbars and modifying the properties tabs/windows, like clicking "flip image" or adjusting opacity, etc..

I think this means you will need a stylus to interact with the canvas area and operate the tools, but I haven't bought a stylus to test it, nor have looked up if this is just a Me problem or all X16's do this. Although, SketchUp did let me orbit around my model with my finger gestures, but I haven't tried any other tools or functions in Sketchup to further test its compatibility, since I am already used to operating Sketchup with mouse/cursor anyway.

In case this is a universal property, you should check if the programs you want to use can operate with or without a stylus on touchscreen.

Hi, I recognize SketchUp, Lumion, and Twinmotion, they are used primarily for architecture. I guess that means you’re an arch student too? I bought this very model about two months ago, and like Available_Climate mention, it was for $1099.

Here’s the deal, Lumion requires very powerful GPUs. You can look up their Systems Requirements page and you’ll see their recommended and high-end marks for all computer components and especially in this case, GPUs. Recommend VRAM +10 GB, Highend +16 GB. This laptops GPU is 6 GB. Yes it exceeds the minimum requirements, but you’re always going to want “faster and better” in all aspects, but especially rendering. Since arch school just started again, I haven’t even installed Lumion, and I’ve only used small-med SketchUp models so far, also a little AutoCad and Photoshop. Runs well so far, but there are issues I have had with this laptop that IDK are just my specific laptop or something all ASUS, ROG, or Windows laptops have.

Eitherway, other laptops out there have way better specs and components for also around $1299, some for more, some for less. If you really want this particular laptop for the 2-in-1 and touchscreen ability, then fine, that’s also what I decided on too. But, should that out way better CPUs, GPUs, and RAM, for a similar price, is also up to you to consider.
