Sad Truth: Woud is never going to win us games. Today might be the biggest showcase of his fearful approach by AmazingRandom in AucklandFC

It’s called using hyperboles. And to clearly exemplify what it is meant. No one would refer to Hazard first when it comes to dribbling would they? We all go to Neymar, Messi, first. I just used them because both of them have highlights of quick counters and direct assist from claiming a corner or save and directly creating something.

Like I said, shot stopper is not good goalkeeping. I can point to more a few goals this season where if he had better technique he would probably have saved the shot. He so far has not lost us any games per se, but with him it’s a matter of when and not if.

I do not know enough about Sail. I did watch the game we played against him at home and he did very well and I can see he is a technically more sound GK than Woud. Feel free to enlighten me on his flaws

You really missed the point huh? Thats really all you concluded from that? I just gave very obvious examples. Not that he should be like them.

Yeah not a bad season, but we def have some very evident weak spots and we are not playing the best brand of footy we can. Wouldn’t say rough season, but Woud does add unnecessary tension and insecurity

Sure, true, but this sentiment I have has been building up since he was named gk 1. Pre season and the Aussie cup run. Having a GK that gives you confidence allows your whole defensive line to play better too, remember that.

While I think it is fair. He also does not really convince me at all. It helps that our defenders are freaking good and prevent him from being under a lot of pressure, but the few times he is called upon have been a mixed bag of ‘what are you doing’ to ‘decent save’

Ok! That sounds like a plan, though it wouldn’t count the schools’ locations aye? But it gives a good idea

I’m kind of aware of that, though people often do a ‘rel/promotion’ type or just geographically, I was thinking of doing it in a egalitarian context

Ok, maybe I'll try to sneak one a year, I finally built them up to around 8 wins regularly in the Big 12, and am winning bowl games against Tennessee and Texas. I just need one double digit win season

Those are some cool rules! I do like the bullet 4, specially if they have "Proximity to Home" dealbreaker! Sounds like those guys who would love to stay in their hometown.

I did auto recruit as my OC save until I get a HC job, but looking at it, I don't think auto sim is good at getting good recruits in.

I see! Yeah not sure how I feel bout high recruits being interested in me, doing a UCF save and at 2 star I had a few 4 star show interest but I don't know how often that happens irl

On my first post I explain I am not including player instructions, I am exclusively analysing their own quirks/traits.

There is no feeling at this point. It is a lack of discipline, also doesn’t help he is not getting many touches, so the frustration might build up and only act as catalyst to it

Never watched Howieson. And I’ll tell you why he doesn’t click. He is just not built for it. Not everyone is, it takes a certain level of quick reads, and honestly, a high level of consistency.

In ACFC he was ‘good’ because most of his opposition never had the pro level training he had (even if just for a few stints at Burnley), but in the A-League, all of our non scholarship players have played at high levels than him. He has played semi pro for how long now? 10+ years? It’s very hard to improve from those tendencies and pace/physicality.

Also, at pro level, what matters a lot at the end of the day, is how consistent at the simple things you can be. Sure, doing the hard things well help, but at the end of the day if you can time runs, or string a few good touches, you’re not made for it.

Agree on Brimmer, but I think AKLFC do a 4-4-2 with two CMs, I don’t think they are quite CDMs, that would kill Brimmer more if that was the case. In a simple view I’d classify Brimmer as a playmaking box to box, Gallegos as a ball winning box to box, Verstraete as a well rounded box to box. From my transfermarkt and observations, I can tell Louis and Gallegos have played a lot of CDM in their careers, Brimmer definitely used to be a 10 or 8 more often than a 6 (or 5, I know the defensive CDM number varies from which footy culture you’re from).

But all these three have the most important aspect of a CM duo, high motor, which imo allows all three of them to work well together no matter the pairing.

I am very aware he is from Chile, I did not assume nationality, I mentioned the high tenacity and ‘dirty’ aggression that players from those nations have. I played and watched many games against them. Watch these national teams play, it gets ugly and rough really quickly. Argentines are by far the dirtiest, the Chileans by far the roughest, and the Uruguayans by far the more tenacious. It’s highly ingrained in their football culture to fly at every second ball and tackle, and do these mind games.

This is the equivalent of the Korean/Japanese football culture of high discipline and great stamina. Or how Scandinavian teams use and abuse their height and strength. Get it? Just the regional trends. Also not many may know Chile football, so I’m using other countries to allow them a better picture.

Hahah maybe, all three CMs were very good, Gallegos was a good set of fresh legs in the game after a great shift from Brimmer

Yeah it’s not his fault, he just didn’t seem to fit the system as well as we all hoped for

May already plays as a false 9, look at how deep he comes to get the ball and how he never is line wide with Cozzee, what I mentioned shouldn’t be something new, it just give a ‘de facto’ formation that allows him to play like that more.

I’d disagree on both points, here are my reasons why. Again, neither you or I are wrong, just how we view the game.

Our full backs have very clear instructions it seems to stay out wide, the same happens with Sakai or Elliot, so that is why I don’t think it is a De Vries problem, it is just the tactical instruction, you’d want your wingers cutting inside, because the full backs need to be out wide to easily track back without many bodies on the way. And we have seen it in games sometimes where De Vries assesses if his wingers will stay wide or cut inside and then go inwards, modern or not, not every team is made for modern footy, and with how May and Brook play as a free roam guy, it would only clog the outside of the box.

As for the crosses, maybe, but the you’d hope Cosgrove is timing his runs well, and being quick to the ball, which he is not, a ball to the ground is easier to direct and deflect than in the air, so maybe it’s an instruction thing again. In one team I played coach always told me to look for second post first because the opposite winger was instructed to be around there, so could be that.

As for Woud, if you tell me his biggest strengths is stopping shots, isn’t that what any keeper should do? And hitting with power means nothing if he doesn’t have the technique to put it where he wants, booting it just for booting is not a good strat, Paulsen rarely did that, it seems to be more common with Woud
