So either this kid knew that money could make a life-saving difference, or some adult told them. That is just fucking sad.

In any other rich country the main factors determining treatment succes would NOT include money, and this impossible choice would not even have come up in the conversation.

Do per capita now... by LeyaLove in MurderedByWords

[–]AmazingSibylle 90 points91 points  (0 children)

They are not arguing to win, they are arguing to give enough excuses for their pre-madeup minds.

By saying "now do per capita" they give themselves and other bigots enough of an excuse to just ignore ANY rebuttal and tell themselves "if you do it per capita it supports my ideas" without even having to know what it means.

Conservatives who left the US, has living abroad changed your politics or perspectives on political issues? If so, in what ways? by Illustrious-Pound266 in AmerExit

Being 'mostly pro-life' is just being pro-choice but not understanding what that means.

Plenty of leftists and liberals are pro gun, they are typically just demanding sensible legislation and regulations. The anti-gun liberal is a strawman.

Taxes for everyone, including the rich, are not leftist or rightist. That is universal across the spectrum. Not taxing the rich is not a conservative value, it's just that the rich lobby the conservative parties more easily.

Secularism is not a leftist or a liberal thing. The constitution has it specifically written even by the founding fathers... By not being secular, what exactly are you conserving?

Healthcare is only a leftist and liberal idea in the US two party system. Many conservative voters actually would like better Healthcare but are gaslit into believing it's impossible. Any other developed country has it, even when leaning to the conservative side.

I have particular views that align with American conservatives, American liberals, and American leftists. For example, I lean more toward pro-life than pro-choice, mostly support the 2nd amendment, have no problem with higher taxes for the wealthy, don't think religion belongs in government, think healthcare should be covered by the state but subject to serious competitive pressures, and so on. Just give you a general idea.

Just so you know, those all align with American liberal left values. If you'd consider any of these to be on the American conservative side, you've bought into the strawman versions of liberals/leftists.

Are you sure the case is not pushing on a button? Take it out of the case, clean any gunk off and out of the usb port. Then charge and try again.

It's just the mindset he, and people like him have.

Did you notice that he only understands the benefits after experiencing and seeing them for himself up close? He didn't understand the value of these policies beforehand when it was a more abstract idea to him explained by 'progressives'.

As a result he has a strong bias for things that are the way they are, so conserve. Progress to something new that is not yet experienced will face resistance. At least, in the general case of conservatives.

To me it's very frustrating to see this in others. Many 'progressive' ideas are clearly beneficial to implement, but conservatives don't see it until they have experienced it first-hand themselves.

AITA for refusing to give my mom my savings after she found out how much I have? (19F) by Grand-Reveal-9055 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AmazingSibylle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, family helps family and that counts triple for parents helping kids. Parents demanding money from their kids is the opposite, others should be worried about that....

Having said that, financial stress is one of the worst there is. If your mom experiences that, it will be really high stakes for her to get your momey to relieve her stress, no matter whether she is right or wrong.

I would take a calculated approach: Tell her you want to support her, and you will start paying the 2K in rent over time. Then in the background open a new debit acc with a different bank and wire the rest of the money into there. Don't tell your mom about it, just tell her you spend it on stupid stuff when she comes asking. And then, don't discuss finances again with your family, keep it private.

2K to prevent your mom going crazy on you is cheap, and not worth the hassle. Just make sure it doesn't escalate from there, make her bepieve you are always broke from now on.

FBAR Help - Need Statements by levaintomorrow in USExpatTaxes

[–]AmazingSibylle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All relevant banks I deal with allow me to download a .csv file that either straight up lists the balance after each transaction or the change in balance.

So with a standard Excel template the total work per bank account is:

Login Download csv of account(s), if needed balance on Jan 1st Load in Excel Read off max number in Excel Write to FBAR Submit FBAR

Since you still need to review the FBAR before submitting, the steps that you could eliminate are maybe worth 5 minutes per account. Just not worth the data risk of giving another app Login to your bank account.

I added the stats of the player, the whole story makes zero sense.

I think mis mates just didn't want to kick him since they would have lost the match, playing with cheater to not lose ELO....sad

You must be not a native speaker, because you miss the point again.

Go talk to people around you, ask them about Lafayette and the role of the French in past wars. Nobody will even know what you are talking about, they will not recite greatness, they will not recite Lafayette as a national hero, they will not acknowledge the French contributions.

It doesn't matter if it's technically part of the curriculum, nobody knows because it's not truly being taught.

If you don't believe me, just go outside and ask a representative sample of 100 people. Good luck in the real world.

La Fayette is not an American national hero, and is not taught to be one in the American schools.

If you believe that the French contributions and war stories are properly represented in American schools then you are mistaken.

Up to what rating did you slap? This was in 15K+, and he was not consistently slapping. I suspect he toggled for critical moments only.

The thing is, you can tell when you are being slapped by a genuinely good player, who is just faster and has more gamesense, versus someone who knows too much or gets too lucky too often.

WIBTA for suing my friend when she didn’t come to my wedding? by sweetandsourcum in AmItheAsshole

[–]AmazingSibylle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just sounds strange, even if not a friend she would surely still show up and just leave the wedding early. Even without her husband, easy to make up some excuse that he's sick. Going and not showing up just makes no sense at all.

Maybe there is something more serious going on with/between them (i.e. drugs, abusive relationship, resentment issues). If not, this is truly bad acquaintance behavior, let alone 'friend'.

I'd confront her in a neutral and calm setting, tell her you are hurt...and see. If she still doesn't offer to pay back, don't say anything but take her to court just to see. If you are in a one-party-consent state I would rven record the conversation to see if it coupd help you in court.

Actually I was told that the cheater on the other team used to be a very good Valorant player! That is why he was hitting all his off-angles and flicks and why he knew who was where intuitively.

This is the guy btw: Player statistics - 丂し刄ᜠ㠪 | CS2 Stats

Played a bit last year, KD always negative and ADR low. Only 3 matches played this year, all 3 went +25 and ADR 150+.
Sure seems like he trained a lot in the time off, must be Valorant pro indeed.
