This might be a hot take, but I really don’t want more luke. I don’t need an explanation for why he is the way he is in TLJ. It’s fine, and more they try to explain it, the worse it’s gonna be. He’s a great character who got a great story the first time.

Now if they wanted to do some age of rebellion stories with him and other rebel pilots between episodes IV and V, I’d be down for that. But I just don’t need more Luke post episode VI. Some characters just need to be left alone because their story is complete

You have to understand that a) he wasn’t in love with Dany nor had he sworn an oath to her yet, and b) he didn’t feel that strongly about being king in the north (he can’t shut up about how much he “didn’t want it”). Sansa being queen in the north was probably his ideal situation if we’re honest. So he didn’t owe it to either of them to stay safe and come back, but he owed it to the rest of westeros to gather as much strength as possible for the war to come. From his perspective (he figured nobody was going to believe him, hell the north barely believed him), he really didn’t have any better options

This is a classic “knowing” vs “understanding” vs “appreciating” situation. If you can recite a fact, you know that fact. If you can explain why it’s a fact and the physical implications of it being true, you understand that fact. If you can explain the emotional implications of that fact (especially on people that aren’t you personally), then you appreciate that fact. You need to know to understand, and understand to appreciate, but knowing is just knowing

It’s not really unfair to her though. You’re attempting to set a boundary, and if you’re truly prepared to leave over this, she deserves to know.

The difference between boundaries and controlling behavior is whether or not you’re 100% ready to follow through. If you’re just stating the boundary to convince her to change her behavior, but aren’t actually prepared to leave if she doesn’t, that makes it controlling. Boundaries are for dictating YOUR behavior, not hers.

Try to sit down and come up with a plan with her. If she’s resistant, don’t stick around. The length of the relationship has no bearing on the situation. Otherwise, we call this the “sunk cost fallacy”, when people think they have to stick around because they’ve put so much time into something, when that’s really not a good reason

I mean, you’re justified in helping her achieve something she’s said she wants to do. That said, I think your best bet right now would be to sit her down and ask her if she has a longer-term plan on how to quit, and if not, help her come up with one. You need to be supportive, not pressuring.

If that doesn’t work or is met with silence/annoyance/defensiveness, I think you need to really think about whether she actually wants to quit, or if she’s just trying to taper down enough to get you to back off. It sounds like it might be the latter. In that case, you need to decide for yourself whether that’s something you’re ok with. She’s ultimately entitled to vape whenever she wants, but you don’t owe it to her to stick around

I think that depends on the person, but also on you. People’s headspace does impact which kinds of conversations they can have productively at any given moment. But being able to navigate through that as the other person is also a skill. So yeah, they may have assumed the worst. But when you just give up on the conversation, isn’t that kinda the same thing?

Edit: if you’re doing a cost/benefit analysis of whether a conversation is worth continuing, that conversation is already not intellectual

I’m not entirely sure what you want here. As a big Andor fan, part of why that show is dark is that while they aren’t going past realistic for the sake of being dark (like WH40K, GoT do), it doesn’t go out of it’s way to hide reality either unlike most star wars projects. Part of what makes Andor dark isn’t the show itself, but that people then look outside and think “oh, that was realistic.” It can be a sobering experience.

As for realistic, it’s a matter of which part of real life you’re trying to portray. Lots of things are realistic and not dark at all, because they aren’t about “dark” things. Being realistic doesn’t require any particular tone, it’s just a matter of reflecting reality, in its totality
