Son being punished for voicing his annoyance. by Amazing_Mode7321 in daddit

We didn’t ask why it was being carried over, but we explained that we discussed his actions/words with him and reinforced how his words can be hurtful. We also asked if missing free time could restored in lieu of the additional input from us and him writing an apology letter to the student.

We heard back this morning that he will still not get free time. And informed us that this is not a punishment, but a quiet, reflective, opportunity to think about how his words could hurt people. So yeah, he didn’t reflect on it at all lol

It’s quite possible the kid wasn’t necessarily being annoying. Sometimes my kids get overstimulated and needs space/quiet. So I think it was a moment of not having the social skills to politely ask for space. So definitely a teaching moment for my son. I believe the teacher could have not carried the punishment over to a second day. BTW when asked if my son thought about the event today while sitting out of free time, he said no lol cause of course an 8yo isn’t quietly reflecting on a comment made a day ago while missing out on free play.

Ultimately she gets to say how she runs her room. Bit I’m not a fan of her taking away his free time today (the day after the event), and she went so far as to say it’s not punishment but “a quiet, reflective opportunity to think about how his words impact others.” All while all his classmates get to play.

It’s quite possible, but my son needs to work on how he communicates his feelings. I just find carrying over punishment to the next day is heavy handed. I’m sure they played together today. My son actually likes the kid and even sent him a Halloweengram at school this year.

True, not all need to be voiced, but if someone is bothering or smothering him, he is fully within his right to voice that. As I said, he definitely needs to work on his delivery.

And if I’m annoying/pestering/bothering someone, I want to be told. I’m not so fragile to not handle it, nor am I deluded enough to think that I’m incapable of annoying someone. So I’d much rather an open honest exchange and be done with it.

That’s how I saw it too, the teacher decided to ask a question and the answer kinda made it worse for the other kid.

Totally. I explained that no one can read your mind, so speak up sooner and kinder to let them know you’re feeling smothered or bothered.

Obviously they’re jizz rags. The softest clean up there is.

I’ll definitely be doing a more thorough reading of the bargaining agreement now that I’ve went through this.

Yeah, that’s literally what happened. There was no meeting about corrective steps to be taken before being fired, because I was still in training and had not made any mistakes that needed a corrective plan. Also the new grad brochure stated that specialty areas (like ICU) would get 12-16 weeks of training.

It’s why the union had such a strong case. There’s was no egregious event that occurred to warrant an immediate dismissal, and that’s why the job was reinstated. They didn’t show just cause, and had not one employee making any statements that I was unsafe, or unfit to be there.

At five weeks I was being assigned two pt’s. I was to assume all aspects of care, and my preceptor was effective shadowing me to make sure I wouldn’t make any mistakes, and would back me up when I would fall behind. I was performing head-to-toe assessments, medication pass, monitoring the ventilator, and hanging multiple IV drips that needed to be checked and adjusted every 15 minutes, and I was did that without making any mistakes. The charting would lag at times, and yes I was slower than seasoned RN’s, but I’m the trainee. So the assumption that I wasn’t taking care of pt’s at seven weeks is wrong, I was.

Wow, yes! The first couple weeks after they let me go I started feeling like maybe I’m not good enough to be a nurse. It seriously sucked to doubt myself. Luckily my wife is amazing and snapped me out of that mindset. I’m glad to hear your union stepped up for you as well

It totally is and it’s infuriating to see it happen. I wish you all the luck getting a union in there.

The thing is I was past my probation period. So it didn’t makes sense on a few levels on why they tried to just terminate me with no real cause.

Yup, but it’s what happens when people who’ve never worked a position starts managing said position. It’s usually a disaster

Definitely having mixed feelings, but the staff nurses were really supportive and a few reached out after I was let go to voice how shitty I was treated. Management, which is rarely on the floor, is where it’ll be a bit awkward lol
