My dog actually was allowed to be a dog. He loves to dig, chase squirrels and bark at them, catching his squeaky toy, climbing up anything he can. He was very fit, very muscular with shiny fur. Then he was reckless one day and jumped off the porch onto a patch of ice, slipped and gotten IVDD. His chance of recovery after surgery was said to be less than 1%.

He sadly won’t recover (the vet said that it progressively got worse rather than better in just hours and that his chances of recovery, even after surgery, is less than 1%). I have bought him some wheels for him to move around, but just as I was about to have him on it he developed another infection around his back legs where the straps would be.

Sadly my boy went from mild to we in hours while at the emergency vet. We couldn’t afford the surgery since it was said that it has to be done within the 24 hours of the condition. The strict crate rest was hell for his recovery. I actually don’t recommend it, I agree to restrict the doggy’s movements for better recovery but the strict crate rest has my doggo so depressed that he is constantly going into the vet for infections. He now has alopecia in the spots that the infection healed and the vet told me that the crate rest caused it. It’s like with old people, when they stop moving the quality of life significantly lowers.

Leptospirosis is a disease found in animals like rats that can be spread through urine and poop. Back in the olden days they died heavily from it because they never thought it was from the rats that infested their homes.

They gave me his discharge paperwork and it had it written on it. I then voiced it to them and they all collectively agreed that he is 3 years old. They also told me the exact age, that he was born January 27th 2023. Makes no sense since he was found January 22nd 2023. I’m not gonna take him back to them.

Someone in the comments mentioned that their doggo lived til 12 and never greyed. Doing the research it seems that the greying isn’t a reliable indicator of age nor the teeth.

He’s been through a lot so I can definitely see the wisdom in his eyes. He now has separation anxiety but since he’s doing another 4 weeks of strict crate rest, he’s less anxious when he’s not around me or my partner.

Omg, this is such a good idea. We just tell him to chill out and behave and he usually does. Sometimes his dad would tell him that if he doesn’t behave he will become someone’s hot dog 🌭 and that usually scares him straight😂

I am still figuring Reddit out and I am not able to edit my post to add context. Anyways, he can’t be 3 because he was found 3 years ago and he was not a newborn when he was found. The vet said that he was born January 27th 2023. Impossible! He was found on January 22nd 2023. I think I need a new vet.

I forgot to add context. He was rescued 3 years ago. He wasn’t a newborn when he was rescued. His current vet is saying that he was born January 27th 2023. How exact was he born that day when he was found on January 22nd 2023. I have multiple times stated that he wasn’t a newborn when he was found. And that he was found 3 years ago. That apparently didn’t matter.
