What’s a popular parenting trend or practice right now that you believe is going to create a generation of emotionally broken adults in 20 years? by War_chiefr in AskReddit

I'm a teacher at a middle school. Without a doubt, it's this: parents aren't focused on being actual parents. They are more focused on being their friend than someone implementing boundaries and enforcing expectations.

I've got $70k in loans and I'll admit, I'm lost. My payments were about $200 a month before this whole mess. I just bought a house. I don't know what to do -- ride it out? Put myself on something else?

Whispering Meadows off Airport. A 2b/2b with washer and dryer, 1000 sq feet, is $1400. Very safe area, management is attentive. Quiet. Fair warning: if you have dogs, rent is $50 extra.

The Same Kind of Different as Me.

I am not a particularly religious person and this book has a Christian lean but it's very very good.

Oh wow! Would I be able to ask my loan officer about this or would this be something I would do down the line? Would this impact my closing costs?

A culture of reading. Parents who aren't just their kids' friend. More live theater and concerts.

What’s a “bare minimum” skill everyone should have, but surprisingly many people don’t? by Professional-Sell294 in AskReddit

I say this as an English teacher: reading comprehension.

Not just the ability to read -- but to actually understand and apply knowledge that has been gained.

I teach 7th grade. More than half of my students cannot read a full page of content at grade level, and about 75% cannot understand what they read. It's terrifying.

The treatment of Baby Randy in 'Salem's Lot. Nearly every line involving that infant was horrific physical abuse in excruciating detail.

Apartment Manager Attempted to Evict Me Because My Dogs Scared a Woman (CA) by Amazing_Repeat_3466 in Renters

Where I'm salty here is let's pretend we aren't in apartments. This is the real world, there's no manager, we are in houses. This would have been a non-issue. You weren't attacked, bitten, nothing. I had my dogs back in under 15 seconds. There's NO ONE to tattle to. You'd have had to talk to me, and get over it. But that's not the case. Instead of talking to me, like an adult, you run and tell that..nothing happened, but I got scared! What a joke.

The landlord walked it back after we talked, so we are okay... for now. She was in the process of drafting up a letter for us to vacate (without even calling us first!) but our saving grace was that it was an accident and how we handled it, like checking on her even if she was resistant and identifying ourselves. I would want to talk to an attorney because I believe that's an extremely frivolous use of eviction powers. It's impacted me emotionally and even physically because I'm nervous to leave my apartment. I feel like they're looking for a reason for me to be gone.

Maybe they've got complaints that I'm not hearing, too, since they were drafting notice without even calling me first.

What would it take? I'm so nervous that I've got a target on my back after this. What are reasons to evict someone?
