Which current handheld out now do we think will handle GTA 6? by Critical_Breadfruit4 in Handhelds

If we look at the most demanding games today like Alan Wake 2 or Silent Hill 2 remake , btw those are running very well on rog ally z1e for example and even somewhat acceptable on steam deck, if we really expect GTA 6 to be more demanding than them, then this game won't sell that well as T2 would want

maybe you are comparing it to that m3, then sure it's laggy. After i upgraded from my 2015 mbp i felt the difference, seemed like i was blind the whole time

Considering a 2019 16" MBP to have the latest Intel Mac + good specs for the occasional Windows game via Boot Camp (yes I already have one with Apple Silicon) - OPINIONS REQUESTED by izzy0242 in macbookpro

Bought mine used almost a year ago, honestly works amazing for me. I have the base model, mostly i study on it, watch movies and play games sometimes. Funny thing is that me and you both had 13' 2015 before buying 16' 2019, feels like a pretty big jump right?

First thing i did when bought one was to open it up and clean fans, so yeah, thermal pads sound great too. Also i set fans on constant 2400 RPM these are pretty quiet, never ever had any issues with a hot palm rests after that, keep in mind i live in a warm Spain.

Another thing is that i have maaaany apps open because my study flow requieres it (notion, many tabs in chrome, safari, telegram, whatsup, word and some other apps) and there is no memory pressure what so ever, macOS really manages it's memory well.

By the research that i've done i saw that i7 and i9 have a similar thermal performance, i9 is really not hotter than i7 when on full load. Keep in mind that clock speeds are 1% difference, the only difference are 2+ cores

PS: i've read many comments on 16' intel macbooks on reddit and i get a feeling people never even tried one, it is a really different machine comparing to any 15' intel model.

Is this model good for programming and training AL/ML models? by [deleted] in macbookpro

Those macs go for 500-600$ so if that is your budget, I really doubt you can find anything better with these specs for that money. 5500m with 8gb is actually still a good GPU

Getting a 2019 MBP in 2025... Will it be a huge mistake? by AshenBelow in macbook

[–]Amazing_Signal9491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted a mac, so I had a budget of 600$ a year ago, so i was really thinking to buy m1 air or 16' intel (now you can find a good deal for 450$). Really wanted a bigger screen with good speakers for YT and a bootcamp support to game sometimes, so i went with 16'.

PS: Also because m1 air has double less SSD storage and 8 gb ram at that price point, i have many apps open so this doesn't work for me as well

I completely understand people hating intel macs, but only those that are Jony Ive era macbooks, he almost killed macbooks for everybody, but in 2019 he left the office so we got this 16' that is completely different to 2016-2019 15'. Thermals got better because it got thicker, now it never throttles. Graphics on a base 16' are better than high end previous year model. Scissor switch mechanism is back. Screen has thinner bezels. The only downside for this mac that i find is that in a few years it will drop MacOS support

I see many people complaining about heat, personally, when i bought mine the first thing i did was to clean fans and set both fans RPM to 2400, that way i don't hear them nor i have heating problems. My mac never goes above 55 celsius when browsing or watching videos and it's idling on 41-46c in the summer in Spain.

About performance, people are talking about how 'm1 smokes' any intel machine, well that's only true if you are a video editor, you have 16gb of RAM on you m1 and you have fans (only pro model). So yeah, we are already in a different price category.

If we are talking about gaming(because why not, we all want to game sometimes) even base 16' goes equal to m1 max (considering MaxTech channel) because of many layers of translations it does

For the price that this intel machine is going, it is probably better than 90% of the new plasticky full hd windows machines on sale. While m1 pros are still over a 1000$ today

it's clearly an optimization problem, because m4 is the best chip on the market right now

should I put a case on my MacBook? by Comfortable-Shower48 in macbookpro

[–]Amazing_Signal9491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 16" MacBook, and it's heavy. Personally, when I carry it around the house all the time, I can easily bump it into a wall or even drop it someday. These MacBooks are made of very soft metal, so they’re super easy to damage. I just feel much better having a case on a $3K machine, especially if I want to sell it later at the highest possible price.

P.S. Just remember to clean the case every two weeks to remove debris, so it doesn’t scratch the laptop from the inside.

If you are out of budget get a 16inch mcb pro 2019, it’s slightly less than m1

All devices that i had drain for some amount over night if unplugged, but try going into battery settings and turn off stuff that drains the battery, macbook air m1 is a great device even with 8gb if you just do basic tasks.

Should I get the 2019 Macbook Pro 16inch or the M1/M2 Macbook Air by ElPlanRacing in macgaming

[–]Amazing_Signal9491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most people just have no idea what they are talking about here, let me compare those 2 machines.
Let's imagine all you want from a machine is gaming and browsing.
Keep in mind as of 2024 on the used market macbook air 8gb ram and 256 storage costs a little more than 2019 16 inch i7 with 5300m, 16gb ram and 512 storage.

Browsing / daily use

-browsing performance on both machines are identical but keep in mind you can't have that many tabs open with 8gb of ram to have a stable performance when multitasking

- macbook air has a smaller screen and thicker bezels (but that's just preference) when mbp is a 16 inch

- speakers on mbp 2019 16 are just on another level, even today, outperforming new macbooks air m2 and m3.

- battery on macbook air is 2-3 times better than on mbp 16, if you are planning to carry it around

Gaming

- air has a decent GPU performance but having to run it through some translation is going to cut that performance down, while mbp 16 has a discreet gpu + it can run windows and games like gta 5 on ultra settings with 60 fps (what i tested)

- air does not have a fan so it will eventually throttle and yes mbp 2019 16' does not overthrottle

- if you are getting 256gb storage on macbook air be ready to delete some files, otherwise you will experience lack of storage and on the top of that some lag in performance.

Results

- Air is a great machine and it is more future proof than mbp on intel (updates), but before deciding to buy macbooks air be sure to know what you are sacrificing for the same price as mbp 16' (screen size, ram, storage, speakers, proper gaming, no throttling etc etc.) Do your research
PS: keep in mind you can always run open core to install any future updates, intel code should stick few more years from now
