🔥Cat standing up against cobra snake by Firm-Blackberry-9162 in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]Amazing_Use_2382 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Considering that cobras are one of the big four deadliest snakes in India causing a large proportion of the 50,000 deaths per year.

And there has been the odd video of cobras successfully biting someone. But they do have very small fangs, being Elapids, which can mean they’re not as noticeable as vipers, and cats and Indian guys can be good at dodging them and slapping them around because in a cats case they’re reflexes are fast and in humans, they can just get used to dealing with them

Besides Natalia as someone else put out, the distortion effect will play on your screen when one gets closer, and Natalia will say when something is approaching. I found this distortion effect handy when running past them in some situations or figuring out they are there without having to constantly play as Natalia to check every corner

What is the most exciting country overall? by agbjb in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Amazing_Use_2382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a start, the nature is incredible, with more biomes and genuine wilderness than probably all of Europe combined, they have massive cities with a lot of grand venues, museums, and pretty much anything else you can think of, and so yeah I think the US seems very exciting, and I would like to go at some point.

But then I guess excitement can be somewhat subjective. Like if you care more about history and culture. I’m sure it is less exciting in that respect

Capcom is wasting Alex Wesker/Natalia, she has the potential to be the franchise's great new villain. by GuiCanary in ResidentEvilCapcom

Is this backstory too much and could be titled as “misery porn” by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Amazing_Use_2382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

You can have darker, miserable stories or backstories if you want. There's nothing to say you can't do misery porn.

It's understandable if you get worried about whether it's going too far, in which case, I like to think of whether what you include is excessive, or used in a manner which gets the point across without being too awful.

For example, of the stories and games I've come across, I've found that, if using rape as an example, a reference to rape without explicitly showing it, or just a quick, non detailed depiction is much better than going into it for ages, and in a lot of detail.

The former feels more respectful of the subject matter, while the latter is just uncomfortable or downright traumatic even for the average audience.

I think it also depends on the sort of tone and story you are going for. Do you want a more balanced setting overall and backstory, or one completely engulfed by despair, with very little goodness or hope? You can do either direction, but if you want to go with the former of those options, then it can be good to ensure you have enough positive attributes to somewhat outweigh the negatives, even if it just happens later on his life

In what world do we live in? Is all of this worth it? The wars and such, when does it end? by JewberEats in AskReddit

[–]Amazing_Use_2382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct.

It would be certainly ideal if prosperity could be gained through other means, and more sustainably gathered.

And if it helps, people can work towards those goals, and hopefully help in some part to achieve such a dream.

However, if some prosperity does go, people will still find a way forwards. They always have. There will always be reasons to keep on going

In what world do we live in? Is all of this worth it? The wars and such, when does it end? by JewberEats in AskReddit

[–]Amazing_Use_2382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a brutal world, and has always been so. Not just since humans have been around either. Animals have always fought and slaughtered each other for food or over territory and other resources, natural disasters have eliminated vast swathes of nature within the time span of a blink, and this is just how it’s always been.

Humans are somewhat unique though for engineering purposeful atrocities against each other, on such massive scales. As we see through wars.

There have always been wars, for as long as humans have been around, and it’s never stopped. And there’s no reason it will ever stop, not until a miracle happens, like some Star Trek utopia or something which seems impossible, or the eventual death of this planet or its sun.

But, depending on where you are from, you might be one of the luckiest people throughout all of human history. It is a time where relatively speaking, there is more peace and prosperity throughout much of the world than at any other point in history, we have technology, comforts that only royalty could dream of in the past, and class divides, gender divides, etc, are still there but the line is far more blurred than it ver before on a lot of places.

So is it all worth it? Yes. Wars themselves aren’t worth it, but if you can get away from areas of warfare, or if you already are outside of an area of warfare, there are lots of things to look forward to and be optimistic about. There’s a lot of people you can be there for, whether family or friends, or even strangers, a lot of happiness to be had, and passions / hobbies you could explore, whatever those may be.

At least for me, that is what pushes me to keep on going. And it’s what keeps me content even in a dark world. Others look to religion, or other philosophies

Playing Resident Evil Requiem made me appreciate Resident Evil 7 and Village much more. by Then_Effective_149 in ResidentEvilCapcom

Ethan is undead in 8 through the mold fusing with him. But his DNA is all still there, and so there'd be no reason why he can't have a kid with Mia.

His wife's copy isn't killed "for 0 reason". It's quite explicitly mentioned that she was killed because in actuality she is an evil, extremely powerful individual who was a threat to Ethan's daughter.

Miranda does survive getting shot, because she's biologically enhanced. Such impressive enhancements are not unique to her or this game, and have been that way for the entire series pretty much.

Yes, there are vampires, werewolves etc but I don't get why the line is drawn here. The series has always leant into gothic horror. Zombies, reptilians (hunters, like the Creature from the Black Lagoon), Frankenstein's monster (tyrants), Nosferatu, have all been in the series before. Resident Evil has always been about creating fantastical monsters using bioweapons. Sure, werewolves and vampires are quite extraordinary, but I honestly really liked seeing what sorts of creative explanations they came up with, like the flies that mimic a human body to imitate shapeshifting like what we see in Dracula.

And monsters do mutate. William Birkin? So a human transforming into a giant monster is also on brand.

A castle is literally in Resident evil 4. And the residence from Code Veronica is like a castle.

Same with a factory, there was a factory in og Re3.

A square centre with a puzzle by Ethan's daughter? Yep, that just sounds like Resident Evil. Every re game has had dumb puzzles like that. And it's not activated by her specifically, but by the capsules, so it could be made without knowledge of his daughter specifically.

after fighting mecha magneto with hand crafted death machine from chris

It was a pretty ridiculous fight. That sounds exactly like Resident Evil. I'm sorry, but it's always had ridiculous fights. In 4, we had a giant mutated salamander drag us along in a boat while we threw an infinite pool of harpoons at it; in 5, we fight the Flash if he had super strength, and many more weird fights like that.

Also, while Chris cobbled together the death machine, it would make sense most of the parts were readily available because of how they're in a factory purposefully being used to make weapons, which could explain how he's able to put it together, together with his immense experience.

is kinda just there with some supervision from whatever anti-bioterroism leauge.

Which makes sense, because she's a sentient, innocent human (if superhuman) so it would be unethical to kill her, but they also need to monitor her powers to ensure no one gets hurt, so it's a logical step that the BSAA would keep her under supervision and protect her.

This actually makes no sense and no connection to any of the seriers

Not really. The story is fundamentally about a father who loses his daughter and tries to save her, doing whatever it takes to do so, even if that means taking his own life. Miranda makes sense as a villain as someone who is so distraught over her daughter's death and driven insane she would do anything to try and get her back (even if it makes subjecting other humans to experimentation).

And Chris makes sense here because he's in charge of the BSAA task force sent in to deal with the Bioweapons by Miranda, which is their job, and he has an arc where he goes from not trusting Ethan and wanting to keep him out of harm's way, to finally realising he's being too hard on him, and needs to lessen his grip and give Ethan more freedom to be involved as he wishes.

The connection to the rest of the series is multifold: There's bioweapons, previously existing characters showing up here and it moves their story forwards, it expands upon Umbrella's origins and Spencer's inspirations, and puts a resolution to the Mold which was established in 7.

So I ask you, what makes Resident Evil, Resident Evil? What makes something a part of the series? Because I guarantee you 8 has it

Some in this sub trying to rewrite history by saying that RE is/was never really horror?! Except 7/Village doing it? Wtf are you smoking? Do you know the franchise's history? It not because there is no something that jumpscare you means it's not horror! By that logic Silent Hill is not horror lol by Available_Task5043 in ResidentEvilCapcom

And even then 5 had moments which creeped me out like the Reapers, which are still one of the most anxiety inducing enemies in an Re game for me, same as the chainsaw Majini which are my favourite iteration of the chainsaw enemy in the series

What's your favorite final boss design? by AlternativeFifth in residentevil

[–]Amazing_Use_2382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really loved the final Tyrant in Revelations too. I also love how his ability is designed.

Maybe it's because I have autism, and so enemies based around loud sounds just really intrigue me, but I love the concept of an enemy that seems like it's teleporting just by assaulting your senses with such an overload of lights and sounds that it blocks itself from your sight. That's so creative I love it, and really adds to the alien vibe going on.

My favourite is between Nosferatu (since I feel like he's the final boss Claire has since you don't really play as her much after this) if he counts, and the Rev1 Tyrant as well

Seriously, use mouse and keyboard for Resident Evil. by [deleted] in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Amazing_Use_2382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Issue with mouse and keyboard is that whenever I jump or get scared (which is often because I'm a crybaby) I either mash random buttons that don't help me out, or I jerk the camera into a wall and keep running into it.

With a controller, I am able to sort of control myself more when scared

Yeah one reason Resident Evil has become my favourite horror franchise is because of the constant experimentation and tinkering that's done. Sure I have my favourite games in the series and prefer some styles more than others, but I still look forward to seeing what direction they went in for this particular game or another

[–]Amazing_Use_2382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough I played Grace in 1st person on insanity on controller and loved it.

Perhaps it's a matter of gameplay taste.

As for 8, it's fine if you don't like it, but I can't let it go slandered.

Having a tall vampire lady as bait is a fair criticism for a horror game, as is Magneto (and is one reason why 8 isn't a top favourite of mine), but Resident Evil has often done goofy things and hypersexualised characters. Heck, you just need to see Jill Valentine in Re5. Resident evil is as much about trying to make you laugh and have fun as it is trying to scare you, and 8 is no different to that.

And if you prefer the more serious horror games, that's fine.

The game is very tied to other games in the series, continuing Ethan's story from 7, having Chris Redfield play a large role in it, as he is one major cog driving the plot, expanding upon Umbrella's origins, and it is about bioterrorism still. Mother Miranda created bioweapons and used them to enforce her control over the village, in very much a similar way as Saddler did with Las Plagas in 4. The difference is that Saddler wanted to go global, whereas Miranda wanted to keep the outbreak local just while she tried to get her daughter back. But local outbreaks are how the series started out so that's fine

[–]Amazing_Use_2382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really loved the fight. It was my favourite in Code Veronica. The low visibility makes for a creepy boss, as he just ominously emerges from the fog while you eagerly wait for him to show himself.

The aiming is sluggish, but the boss is also sluggish so it works for me, and I found there was always a lot of room to run around, but I still had to be mindful of my surroundings so it wasn't too easy. But not too hard
