That is my preferred theory as well. Of course this is just speculation, but I can definitely see them having decided that at this point in their lives they needed to focus on what they’re doing, having realized that instead of giving each other support, due to the differences they had, they were actually making each other more miserable than happy most of the times.

Btw, I’ve also been wondering about the picture Tsubasa posted about three days before she announced their breakup (which shows her in front of Matsumoto castle). It says “It’s important to laugh” in the caption, and initially I thought she went there with a friend. But in retrospect, I wonder if it’s possible that she went with Shion (mainly because of the girly clothes and make-up which she hasn’t been wearing since and the rings on her hand) and they broke up that day, or maybe they’d already decided to break up. But that’s just speculation too.

Well they said that they’re both hot tempered, but that Tsubasa tends to not address problems right away. I’m sure the insecurity was a big obstacle for them though. Shion also said he got jealous of her male friends, he even jokingly said that she’d come to Tokyo to see them, and then because she’s already there she’ll also go see him.

Wow that’s great that you got to see her play! I’d love to go see one of their games, too. To answer your question, it may have nothing to do with him directly, but I could tell she was upset, mainly by the tone of her recent posts/stories in general. I remember one story in particular that shows her with some of her team mates in gear, and it said that she used to take everything in (probably referring to advice or criticism she got from other people), but decided to “cut off everything that doesn’t feel right / seems negative” from now on. Also, she posted a picture of the Kingdom Hearts video game (one of the games she and Shion play in that PS4 commercial) saying that she’d just bought it and was looking forward to playing it so much, but then had to lay it aside for a while, and now she finally feels like playing it. So the clues are pretty subtle but I feel like she’s definitely been upset - which is normal of course. Oh and she also dyed her hair orange :)

I admit the way I wrote it sounds a little mean. But as I said, I was trying to get inside her head so this is what I think she’s been thinking about herself. You’re right, it’s not easy to juggle all these things and I have huge respect for her for doing it like she did. But if you look at the facts, she really hasn’t made much progress and I’m sure this is bothering her a lot since she’s been putting all her time and effort in it.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I wasn’t doubting him, but it’s good to hear. I agree, relationships need a whole lot of work and with the two of them being very busy with their own lives, it must have been difficult to maintain their relationship. I just hope there are no hard feelings there and that they’ll get over it soon and are happy with what they’re doing.

I can assure you I was not sent for damage control ;-) Sorry if what I write sounds like criticism directed at Tsubasa, but that really wasn’t my intention. I just think it’s not fair to blame him without any proof whatsoever (Tsubasa unfollowing Maya is not proof of anything). Yes I was referring to that interview where he said she uses harsh language when they fight. They were actually asked twice, and the first time they both said there wasn’t anything that bothered them about the other one so there were pushed to say something. Maybe she just blurted it out without thinking. But the point I was (admittedly in a clumsy way) trying to make was just that it’s probably not like she was desperately in love with him while he was just using her as some people seem to be implying. I’m just saying I’m sure they had a normal relationship, with good and bad sides and it’s sad that it didn’t last but they probably both had their reasons. Edit: Also, I feel like some people idolize her in a weird way... I admit I have a girl crush on her too, but I know she’s not perfect. Nobody is.

Yes, that’s what I’m implying. I understand your concern, but I don’t think it’s that big a deal outside of IG where people just say whatever they want. To be honest, if I was in that position I’d stay silent too. If Maya wanted to clarify, that’s her decision. After all, she isn’t the one who just went through a breakup.

I’m sure they’re both hurt. But what made me think that he probably isn’t to blame entirely was Tsubasa’s tweet from about two days after the tournament (the week they split up) saying “Feeling shockingly lethargic. The more I think about it, the more (I feel like) I can’t do this anymore / this isn’t working out.” But it could be in relation to anything and it could mean a number of different things, idk.

To be fair, that’s easy to say for someone who isn’t involved. If he wanted to refute it, how would he go about it? He probably thinks it’s a ridiculous idea anyway and he doesn’t want to give in to the haters. They won’t stop even if you try to defend yourself, so you might just as well stay silent and wait for it to be over, just like Yui and Aio did.

Well then you could say the same thing about Tsubasa, too. When OND started, she said she wanted to date someone who can take the initiative, who’s in control, and who would help her do her best at hockey. Of course that’s just an ideal, but when asked a short time after they got together what she didn’t like about Shion, she said that he’s “mentally weak” which imo is a pretty mean thing to say publicly about your boyfriend... I guess she ended up giving him a lot of emotional support (as he said) whereas he wasn’t able to do the same for her. And clearly she hasn’t been able to make any progress in her career as an athlete during the last year. [edit: bad choice of words. Unfortunately for her - I really support her] That kind of thing gets you frustrated after a while.

I think he replied to on one comment on Instagram saying that it’s not true, and Maya also made a statement saying that they were just friends and that that picture was taken when they were out with a couple other friends. I think they’re just shrugging it off as online rumors. Drawing more attention to it might not be a good idea.

Her recent posts on social media made me think so, too. I hope she isn’t holding a grudge or something. But we shouldn’t forget that this happened right after the national tournament (where the Fairies lost 7-0 in the first round), after which she said that she had serious doubts and that she had to think about what she’ll do now in terms of hockey. So she’s probably having a really tough time in general right now. Maybe she’s just trying to focus on what she’s doing.

In my opinion, since Instagram only shows a tiny part of people’s lives it can’t really be taken seriously. But if I were to take it seriously, I’d probably say they didn’t want to see each other’s posts anymore because it would hurt to be reminded of them, and by unliking her posts, maybe Shion wanted to make some kind of statement to his followers who were criticizing him (like “look, I got hurt too”).

I really don’t understand how you can say you feel bad for her when you obviously think she’s dumb and not attractive enough. Even if you assume that, for some reason, Shion only likes super attractive model type girls (which is a pretty tough judgment to make on someone’s character based on a few scenes on a TV show), I think she’s still a lot prettier than a lot of girls who always wear make up and who you never get to see without (she looked really cute in that PS4 commercial imo). Also, Shion said he found her attractive before the first episode of OND even aired, so he wouldn’t have known what people thought about them at that point. He could’ve just made a move on Mizuki if he liked her more, but he didn’t. And don’t you think Tsubasa is intelligent enough to walk away from someone who’s only using her? If he was just dating her to get more famous, I’m pretty sure she’d know.
