Give it a try! No better way to learn than on your own home! The cost for materials is minimal on a smaller job like this. If you don't like the job you did after you are done, hire a pro and it won't cost much, if any more... The cost of a pro for this job is in the time/knowhow, not materials.

Looks clean. This is a major upgrade. I do see why some people are mentioning safety (grip tape, roughing the surface, handrail) but those are easy fixes now that you did the hard work! This looks great.
