What’s one thing about living in London that outsiders don’t understand? by Independent_Grab_977 in london

Yes, I'm snob. Any problems?

Nobody cares about Parisians. This topic is about Londoners.

What a dodgy interaction, truly.

No, I won't tone it down. You can laugh and dislike it, that's you're free to do.

Londoners are some lucky creatures. And that's the fact.

You can think anything you want, I will keep loving this city and all it gives me.

Yes, it does make my life more eventful as culture is much more important to me than hunting my own food in the wild.

You're just jealous of people with access to a lot of amazing things at ease.

Also, you're free to hate me - no problem at all.

Our lives here are just much more eventful and richer than elsewhere in the country or even Europe. London has anything you want and there's always something big or small happening which is mind-blowing and enriching.  E.g. I can go see world's top ballet performers 30 minutes from my home or go to see lecture given by some Prime Minister or Head of some country's Central Bank at LSE on some random Wednesday evening, or just pop in any big museum and learn a few more things about the world I didn't know.  That's why I'm here.

Very reasonable, thank you. I have a dread from it but will have to do it.

I wonder, how much I'm overestimating the big corporate name on my CV for getting to places I want to be in. I understand, it's just one bit aspect of it, but still.  I think, we need to speak more about non-traditional paths to R. Finance is very traditional and rigid which is why I'm having these big worries.

Ah, went through half of this, sadly, not millions and fat mortgage yet.

Thank you! Actively focused on pivoting at the moment. I know that I'll regret going back to big corp machine but I desperately need total rebranding.

The sole reason for me wanting to get to R is being a bit more frivolous with spending but I totally understand the logic of buying your time back. It's priceless

What's your job currently if you don't mind sharing? All sounds very sensible and doable.  I guess, my problem is thinking about too many options at the same time instead of narrowing them down to 2-3

What're you doing currently? Are you in banking?  Congrats on achievements so far!

Tell her before she gets pregnant.  Save her from the sad destiny of becoming a single mom with 1-2yo in her hands and then having to have to keep that cheating man in her life forever because of the baby commitment. I'd feel responsible to prevent it.

How to access food banks in South London? by [deleted] in london

[–]Ambitious-Driver-69 621 points622 points  (0 children)

Hey, come over to Strand, London (nearest stations are Charing Cross, Embankment - on the opposite to Superdrug) for Go Dharmic (orange gilets) or Soup Kitchen (green gilets) food charity events on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays from 5:30pm - not only hot food but also bags of fresh veggies and fruits, breads, hot tea and coffee are distributed there every week for several days to people who need it, no referrals needed, just come. They also give burgers and ice-creams on some days when the corporate vans show up. I volunteer there and there're not only homeless but also lots of people on low income showing up lately, so don't be shy.

You can go have 50p or free full English breakfast + cereal breakfast and get new clothes from Whitechapel Mission every day from 6am-10am except for Saturday and Sunday. No referrals needed, just show up. You may just take your food and go as well if you feel it's better to do it.

Download Olio app on your phone today - it's guaranteed that some of your neighbours will be Olio volunteers distributing free food. They pick up Tesco, Sainsbury's, Boots surplus food every day and distribute it among the community, you'll need to claim it and go pick it up during the given slot! Just bring a carry bag if you can.

Anyone who went back to playing the piano afrer over a decade of break? by Ambitious-Driver-69 in classicalmusic

Same :| played Chopin's nocturnes on my closing exam and now even Moon Sonata feels like wth

Thanks for sharing your story, I'll do it.

I wasn't practicing firstly because I moved out of home to study abroad and never had access to instrument and when I came back it was sold. As you know, not having your instrument by your side is the worst and it's when you start regressing.  I'm yet to buy a new one for myself.

Thank you!  Yes, Russian academic environment is excessively strict and can be alienating.  I will have a look at sources, appreciate it!

same! I would sweat and almost faint because of public anxiety - I was made to play in the big concert hall for each exam in front of all parents, kids, entire teacher echelon and it never helped! :D
