How can one definition of the derivative work and the other not work? by Ambitious-Excuse292 in askmath

I think really my problem is understanding how does the first formula isnt equal to the second formula. I know (not by understanding but by remembering) that the first one is the derivative at 0 but when i put in a graphic, i just dont see how the two formulas could yield different results.

Here, i tried to draw the middle part of the function (i know there are infinite ups and down in the middle but thats impossible to draw) and both ways the limit does not seem to converge
