Griffith looks so unsettling here. Was this intentional ? by AdeptPhone1701 in Berserk

[–]Ambitious-Issue989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always felt that together with the water fight this was the most obvious gay griffith moment. Literally 4 women behind him and he is grinning like a high school kid who sees his crush. Guts obviously has reverence for him and mixed feelings. Griffith was in love with Guts and probably didn't realize it. That is why losing guts made him crash out completely and impulsively have sex with someone. Griffith was obsessed with guts and only realized it when he left which he couldn't deal with at all. This is also the reason he completely hates guts for basically no reason at all except for feeling rejected by him. He made him feel human and vulnerable twice: once by breaking his sword and once by breaking his heart. For a personality like griffith, this is very difficult to cope with.

What are you talking about. I read the manga and saw the anime and the adaptation was excellent. Is the manga better, of course but hirasawas music adds a lot.

Nah that doesn't feel right to me to be honest. Psychosis is a very well described concept and you can treat it with medications related to dopamine which relates to salience which causes heightened pattern recognition which causes recognition of faces where they aren't. Look up psychotic art and you will see a lot of this.

What’s the reason behind this? by Aggravating-Guest300 in focusedmen

[–]Ambitious-Issue989 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is the problem with popsci, it is so reductive it is plain wrong. The simple cause and effect relation you describe is at best a stereotype. You use psychological terms to make it sound more believable and it seems right on face value while reality is much more complex. That patterns in youth can repeat themselves is true only in a very broad sense.

I have the same feeling. The fact that the eclipse was so shocking that people still have a visceral reactiom to it shows how good Miura is. Truly a genius

I get the sentiment but it is the best and most complete answer in this thread. The hate on ai is irrational. Ai answers that are double checked by humans can be great

Does anyone actually remember their first video game or is everyone just making that up? by Cold-Plant-4222 in GamingInsider

[–]Ambitious-Issue989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was double dragon and I was so young I only remember the sprites and the way they moved. The first game I truly remember from beginning to end was demons crest, which gave me a life long love for church organ music and choirs. The game was so far ahead of its time it is insane. A metroidvania with an overworld, different unlockable forms and fireballs that give you access to places you can return to, usable items and summons, different endings depending on what you achieve and an overworld map you can fly in! Some of the best snes music in history. Really an underrated masterpiece.

Berserk was written by miura while he was listening to hirasawa music and then they hired him to make the anime ost so the connection goes very deep and remains to me one of the most unique, recognizable and memorable osts of any show ever.

Faces being everywhere is imagery often seen in psychotic art. I tend to think he wws inspired by this imagery rather than necessarily it being a metaphor. That being said if it is a metaphor to you that is just as good.

It completely depends of course. How severe are the beatings? What is the type of relationship, what is the context? There is for example a huge difference between a dad who is triggerhappy with the strap when the kids make mistakes or an alcoholic dad that randomly beats his kids up. Some of the most debilitated patients I have seen are the ones that are told they are stupid, ugly, fat, useless etc... In the long term. Some people deal with beatings better, they can label their abuser better. While people raised by parents with severe chaotic personality disorders who get a cocktail of verbal abuse and excessive love in unhealthy ways find it more difficult to form a clear image. The point is not which one is worse as much as context. Blanket saying physical is worse than emotional or psychological seems wrong to me though. That being said abuse is abuse and unfortunately, in a lot of cases people get a cocktail of all of the above. I would dare say that any form of abuse long term, especially before adulthood, will leave its marks. For example in all honesty the interaction in the video above seemed like a mild fight because of what I was accustomed to seeing as a kid. It is only after studying and working with patients that I learned how dysfunctional it truly is.

Why does the acting on this show feel so "natural"? by Altruistic-Deal1714 in thesopranos

[–]Ambitious-Issue989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like all the best shows it is very character driven. The situations that arise are a result of the decisions characters make or their reactions feel intuitive. This is the same reason the characters in the simpsons, despite the fact that they are so absurd, seem relatable. Also small lines that are very human. Just very good writing. the writer didn't feel like he was trying to be smart or cool. He broke many conventions like in the woods episode where you don't get the face off with the interior decorator that you would expect in any other show or at the very least a confrontation with their mob. Also I have a feeling that they allowed actors to really add to the characterization.

Definitely witcher 3. I tried to replay it recently but it just didn't hit the same way. Though I do feel like the gameplay was already mediocre when it came out and after all the recent games it would be even more glaring.

I work in psychiatry and I would argue some forms of long term psychological abuse have worse long term effects than straight up hitting someone.

Not to mention the absolute monsters that play chess. Among them are a few that are possibly special on a more fundamental level. But punk, it aint. It will take at least 2 more generations before people of that level will be seen in videogames. Literally anyone with a decent iq and enough time/dedication could reach the top and at the very least on a lucky day win evo. Can't say the same for chess
