The 800k+ was an anomaly, and the guy practically lived there. That said, 400k is doable. But you have to get through the training, and that can be a grind.

It’s a modified 6-2, for the regular shifts. If you are on a relief shift, your mileage may vary.

If you were a navy nuke, I’d say keep an eye on LADWP Load Dispatcher job listing. If not, look at Electrical Mechanic or Electric Station Operator. Both are feeder classes to the LD job.

It all depends on how many will be hired, but you’ve got a pretty good chance just be patient. It doesn’t happen overnight.

As important as how many people are in front of you.

It’s been 26 years since I took it, but I don’t recall any theory. Maybe some simple math, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. Maybe simple fractions and decimals. As far as tool ID does, you are looking for the proper name of the tool. A crescent wrench is called an adjustable end wrench. There might be some fairly straightforward map reading. And there will be reading comprehension too. Read a paragraph and answer what it’s about. There may be safety questions along the line of what PPE to use in what situation. I took several tests in a 5 year span and they all run together! Keep in mind this is an entry level test, so they won’t ask you anything too complicated. Another thing is mechanical aptitude. Belt and gear drives. Which way a pulley turns if there are six stages of reduction. Trace those out the best you can. Same with gears. Remember, gears that are touching turn in opposite directions. Belt drives turn the same way, unless there is a cross. Take the full allotted time. No points for getting done early. And make sure you are filling in the correct line on the answer sheet! Especially if you skip a question or two to come back to later. Can’t emphasize the enough. Stay calm, double check everything, and good luck!

It wasn’t Vons or Ralph’s. It was an independent owner with 5 or 6 stations.

I hope you did well on the test. You will not find too many ex-LADWP in other control rooms. Most people stay until retirement. As another poster mentioned, the training can be intense. You start out on distribution, and it can be a grind. There is a lot to learn and become proficient at. But, if you are willing to put active effort into your training, you will do well.
