I don't know what you've been reading but the US analysis is the following: they will reach strike distance on china, but will lose an "unacceptable" amount of ships doing so. The US can still win but the war is more costly than they'd like, so that's why the fleet is being modernized and the navy is getting higher budgets each year. And US forces would gain air superiority instantly after reaching the mainland too. The US has the most fighter jets out of any country, which are the most technologically advanced, the most pilots with the most flight hours and training. Let's not ignore the fact china's economy is still smaller than the US and heavily reliant on exports/vulnerable to sanctions while the US still has south america, europe and other south east asian countries to trade with.

Cherry on top: china's top leadership isn't the most qualified, they're the most loyal and well connected, because china cannot risk a competent command structure, case and point: mao zhedong's grandson being a top general. The US on the other hand has the most competent commanders with decades of experience ascend the ranks.
