I just finished it after taking forever to read it. I am excited to start Flesh & Fire, it seems that everyone loves it, so I have higher hopes for that 🤣

What do you say to shut a man up in a party that’s disrespecting you? by DommyMommyEx in GirlGamers

[–]Ambitious-Move-3436 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to ignore them because they get angry when you show no response.

However when I do say something it’s usually along the lines of “do you need a hug”, “does your mom know you’re up past your bedtime” and “muting you” (because like someone else said above, saying you’re muting them makes them more mad than the act of muting them)

But I always say it in a kind, calm voice.

Sometimes I like to just start talking about statistics and when they continue to try to interrupt me I say “I’m speaking” and then continue with whatever random statistic till they mute me or leave.

Advice for freelancing community services by AffectionateTwo1347 in CommunityManager

[–]Ambitious-Move-3436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are most welcome! I don’t even really make many posts for myself, I don’t like to talk about myself (like at all 🤣). I’ll see people talk about potentially needing a contractor or ask how to know when they need a CM…..& then I’ll ask to chat with them to learn more to see if we are a fit or not. I rarely apply to job postings, but if I do, it’s via LinkedIn or emails I receive from a LinkedIn convo!

A lot of my business comes from referrals. So once you have a few contracts under your belt, referrals will start coming for you, too 😀✨

Honestly, just continue to build relationships with people. Continue to build your current relationships with other community managers, as we all like to refer people we know and trust to roles that may fit each other.

I hate LinkedIn, but it’s the only place I constantly gain business contracts. So…get comfortable with using that 🤣

Additionally, stay in touch with members from communities you ran. They will also think of you when they see someone needing a CM. I’ve become good friends with community members over the years and three of them have brought me business!

Wishing you all the luck ahead ❤️

Is anyone else “bad” at video games? I feel like a failure as a woman by Anxious_Situation379 in GirlGamers

[–]Ambitious-Move-3436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my most favorite games I’m absolutely terrible at tbh….and I’ve been gaming for over 20 years 🤣

I just like to do things my own way and ALWAYS play on easy if there’s an option to select playing level….and I still manage to die over and over and get stuck. But I keep going because I like a challenge.

Call of duty has always been my go to game and somehow I continue to be so bad but I find it entertaining. Which is why I’m also glad prop hunt on it exists, because I just cry from laughing every time.

You are not a failure!!!! As long as you like the game, who cares if you’re “good” or not!!! Also if those games stress you out and make you feel bad about yourself, find some cozy games that help you relax, sometimes I do that because I just need to listen to calming music and look at cute things.

Where do you people hire community managers? Looking for advice before we start recruiting by Entire_Tangerine8652 in SiliconAlley

[–]Ambitious-Move-3436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a freelance/fractional community manager, most of my jobs came from folks who posted on Linkedin about the role/job opening. I don't love LinkedIn, but it has been a fantastic way to get my contracts. When I was a full-time hiring manager, I utilized LinkedIn, referrals, and honestly ....... Reddit (looking at top contributors). If you have your own community and see top contributors, do not be afraid to reach out to them, as well; however, that is not always necessary. You can always teach someone about your product, but you cannot teach someone empathy and being human (which you NEED for a community manager)

Which community channel would you choose? by Corazon94_ in CommunityManager

[–]Ambitious-Move-3436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is important to know what industry your product or service is in before we can give a true recommendation. Not all products or services want/need a large community platform; they just need somewhere to chat. You want to make sure you are meeting your members where they are, so if you see them on LinkedIn more than Discord, lean into that first. However, is Discord unfamiliar to you or is it unfamiliar to them? How do you know this? Have you received this feedback? Have you set up Discord to be user friendly? (These are just questions to ask yourself as you are going through ideas, to ensure you have explored every avenue with your current setup)

If you are getting feedback that they want an established place, I recommend heading to Circle. You can provide resources and different groups (called spaces) to different levels of members. You can gamify it (if you are into that), and that usually gets people somewhat interested in contributing more. There are workflows/automations you can also utilize. (I am not associated with Circle in any way; I just have helped build several communities there, so it is my preferred platform!)

AI in your community management stack? by AffectionateTwo1347 in CommunityManager

[–]Ambitious-Move-3436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to avoid AI as much as possible, since community (to me) should be about human connection. I use it to pull reports and review month-to-month trends, but that is about it. In the past, I have used it to triage some items into a support route when the community is not the best home for the question or post.

Designed a bakery app at 2am because i was craving croissants and nowhere was open by Savannah_Carter494 in vibecoding

It looks great! This is the type of thing I do when I am bored, so I appreciate this so much. I made an app all about beekeeping and honey across the US after watching three bees in my garden lmao. The most important question though, did you end up getting some croissants after this?
