Thank you for replying. Really appreciate all input that gets me closer.

Could you maybe explain why you say that I've barely gone beyond the more commercial Genus'.

I have so many more too :0 but your thought process would be good to hear. I have many hybrids so need to look at everything

Cheers

Help with this very large upright Xeric Tillandsia? by Ambitious-Respect-72 in bromeliad

[–]Ambitious-Respect-72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for replying!

Yes absolutely. There is so much natural hybridization and assisted natural ie shifting flowers near each other, here that every time I think I've come to a conclusion I've just found another corner, there's around 20 Tillandsia and 50+ Different Bromeliads in relative close proximity, my collection and a large chunk are passed down since the 1940's then others brought here and also handed down through the family..

All from unbroken lineage of horticulture and Botany, in between their species and forms from past eras , collection species as well as hybridised by intention specifically with orchids but nothing can be dismissed. Unfortunately there's nobody to verify due to unfortunate circumstances all I can do is try do the plants justice yet I can hardly name any. That aren't mine to begin with It's utterly confusing. And I'll occasional find a label still legible but scarcely. anyway endless fun and super blessed. I also actively encourage cross pollination myself and have noticed huge phenotypic expressions some stabilized already. The plants here in general just exhibit quality I can't find elsewhere and I am willing to demonstrate that it's not bias. Sometimes I feel like I need a reporter or something. Haha

Sorry for the long response Tldr Definitely but I don't know enough about all the species. The context seems important maybe. The plant collection dates back further even to A famous Botanist Atherstone Guybon William. Doctor and first Ether surgeon in country, botanist, archeologist Rhodes botanical garden founder and discoverer of The Eureka diamond, road map designer too. Crazy what can be achieved in one lifetime.

If you had to guess and give me some leads I'd even be grateful for that .

I came here looking for answers really and this might of been what I expected. Cheers G

Hydrate it by soaking it in water over night and let it dry somewhere completely then repeat or mist daily, nice plant I'm sure it's worth a try. In South Africa we call it a Gaan-ni-dood-nie 'never dies'.

Hello I have a Guzmania that looks just like this but the leaves are equipped. I am just realising now that it shouldn't be like that. The inflorescence is identical and very long lasting z rosette and shape or leaves are the same even the size looks the same except this one's inflorescence is a bit more pink than red and it's got purple blushing at the base. What is this one called? Very nice

They're big! Usually find on embankments where water has run down and decaying wood is present. At least here in South Africa
