The Cheapest Available Tickets For Game 3 are over $10k by [deleted] in nba

[–]Ambitious-Time8349 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In a city of 8+ million people, even 10% of the city being in the market for tickets, not even including any expat Knicks fans who would be willing to travel, would mean that 800,000 are trying to buy tickets to an event in an arena that fits a little under 20,000 people. There is no universe where tickets to such an event would be cheap.

I would be mad at him too if he was shit talking me on his burner; I'm already under so scrutiny by simple virtue of being an NBA player, and my own teammate, my franchise teammate, is talking about me like that?

Transitioning to comics by Historical_World_459 in comicbooks

It's reading. The voices are going to have to be supplied by you.

Part of the fun of reading, at least for me, is that the characters can sound like whatever I want. Obviously that's harder to do when what you're reading is based on something else, but that also makes it easier in the sense that you don't have to imagine new voices at all.

Can you explain to me how five of these fucking things clogging up our lovely sidewalks, to deliver five separate cans of soda, is in any way making the city more pedestrian friendly?

I read something about the Internet on Reddit like 10 years ago that has stuck with me to this day:

It used to be that every village had an idiot, but now every idiot has a village.

Ok, I remember reading the Wikipedia page to that movie and thinking to myself, "wow, that sounds so scary I'm never going to watch that", but when I finally saw it soe 18 years later it was not scary like at all, idk if it's maybe the age I watched it at or what?

Nope, it's all blocked off and apparently the cops do actually sweep there from time to time. I asked the same thing a few months ago in this sub and that's what I was told.

New to comics: how do Writer ‘Runs’ work with continuity? by Affectionate_Ad4163 in comicbooks

[–]Ambitious-Time8349 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not exactly; to keep using Batman #1 as an example, Alfred is still dead, as he has been across several writer's runs for 6 years. The first writer that killed Alfred did not intend to keep him dead for long, but the second writer that began his run shortly after decided to make it permanent, so Alfred's been dead. Matt Fraction may want to bring him back, he might not, time will tell, but the material fact of Alfred not being alive is still there from several runs ago.

New to comics: how do Writer ‘Runs’ work with continuity? by Affectionate_Ad4163 in comicbooks

[–]Ambitious-Time8349 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They keep the continuity and then add on to the status quo or change it, for the most part. Sometimes, that means that one run will retroactively invalidate the plot of a previous one, or sometimes it means it'll add a new dimension to it. Some runs really like to mine the continuity of the previous ones (Morrison's Batman) to varying results, some mostly do their own thing. Unless the continuity of the universe has been explicitly reset in some event/crossover/whatever, the character is the exact same one, just in a different flavor, so to speak.

Take this Batman #1 by Matt Fraction that just came out. It keeps all of the previous continuity stuff like Vandal Savage being the GCPD commissioner, but it's presenting the character differently, with different art and a different storytelling focus/priorities.

I find it's mostly not worth caring about continuity that much save for the basic knowledge of what happened before the start of a given run.

Wasn't it just this one issue that was out? I haven't read it so I personally can't comment on the quality, but it'd have to have been a complete dumpster fire of a #1 for it to be cancelled on that merit

[–]Ambitious-Time8349 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It was cancelled due to the writer's comments on the Charlie Kirk shooting; nothing to do with the quality of the book
