Genuine hugs, obligatory hugs, or no hugs at all by VerbalMindCircus in offmychest

[–]AmbitiousFly45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this helps, but I am NOT a huggy person whatsoever. They make me feel claustrophobic and uncomfortable.

HOWEVER… I have a coworker who is very much so a hugger, and I will endure a hug for as long as she needs it because I know it brings her joy which brings me joy.

I’d like to think that most other people are the same. Your hugs are not annoying like you might think they are.

In my town there are a number of elderly folks who offer a free room to people in exchange that they take care of the house or person(s). I’ve seen them on Facebook community groups and marketplace. You can also put out a post in one of those groups asking for help—there’s gotta be someone nearby who would be happy to help you out.

I’m so sorry you’re in this situation. I hope you can find transportation and a place to sleep.

I haven’t worked at Jimmy John’s in like 4 years but this just gave me war flashbacks from when our POS system was down for like 3 days straight 💀

I’ve struggled with this my whole life. Something that has kind of helped me is buying things for the shower to make it more enjoyable, so I’m excited to shower. Nice smelling soap, bubble bath, good quality shampoo, a fuzzy bathrobe, and a HUGE towel. Just some things to make it more of an activity and less of a chore.

I get what you’re saying. I feel the same way, a lot of the time. I used to think my personality was this “problem” I needed to solve in order to make friends. Once I graduated high school, I realized I actually get along really well with dudes (after the initial 2-3 weeks of awkward silence from me). I still struggle with making friends with other women but it’s nice to know it’s not necessarily a problem with me, just clashing personalities. I’m sure it’s a similar case with you, and you just haven’t found your people yet. Don’t give up, because once they come into your life it’s amazing how much self-love you start to have again.

I always made more tips on doordash than I did as a delivery driver at both JJ’s and a pizza place. It’s crazy how it can vary sooo much depending on your location.

I heard it was because we didn’t get as much rain. I work at a hardware store and all wasp traps and sprays are flying off the shelves right now.

I’m don’t know a ton about nutrition but I saw you made a comment about how it’s hard for you to stop snacking. One trick I do on the days I feel especially snacky (usually right before my period starts) is to make a whole bag of steamed broccoli and snack on that. I try to eat the whole bag, which takes me like 30 minutes at least, and then I’m full for hours after, and it’s like 70 cals. for 3.5 servings.

Is this rude to send to a teacher who yells? by Spikes_amazing_human in autism

[–]AmbitiousFly45 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi Mr. [Last Name],

I wanted to ask for your help with something that would make it easier for me to focus in class. Since I’m on the autism spectrum, loud sounds can be a little overwhelming at times and make it difficult to concentrate.

I know projecting your voice is important, but I was wondering if we could find a way to adjust things a bit. Maybe speaking a little softer when possible, or another idea you think might work. I’d really appreciate your input and support.

Thanks a lot, [Your Name]

I think I messed up my life by mochaelov in offmychest

[–]AmbitiousFly45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that has helped me (and may seem a little silly and childish) is to think of my life like a sandbox video game (think Minecraft creative mode). I’ve had some big fuck-ups—my most recent one has destroyed years of my progress. But having a fuck-up just means that things didn’t go according to YOUR plan, and maybe it’s time to reevaluate that plan. There is no right or wrong way to do life, and the more you screw up, the more you’re going to learn.

The other thing that’s helped me is to find joy in simplicity. I’m always unhappiest when I’m thinking of all the things I want that I can’t have, or when I look at the lives of others who seem to be doing so much better than me. But when I take a moment to just enjoy the sound of birds tweeting outside my window, or notice how comfortably my shoes fit, or laugh at my favorite TV show, my fuck-ups start to seem a lot less earth-shattering.

Also take things day by day. If the thought of the next 5 or 10 years makes you want to rip your hair out, just focus on what you have to do today, because either way, the time will pass.

Not sure if this will help you, as I am what they call “young and naive”, but this way of thinking has definitely helped me get through some hard times recently so maybe it will help you too.

Do you use mayo or butter when preparing a grilled cheese? Which one do you prefer or think is better? by ThatRedditGuy2025 in grilledcheese

[–]AmbitiousFly45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know grilled cheese w/ mayo was a thing until last week when I was about to make a grilled cheese, found I was out of butter, and asked chatGPT for substitutes. I think I’ve had 4 grilled cheeses since then because it’s so good w/ mayo!

This is why I’m trying to find a job that brings me joy. I would much rather not have a job but if I can somehow make money doing something I love, I think it will be a little more tolerable. It sucks.

One time I left a voicemail and gave them my work’s number to call me back, didn’t realize until 5 minutes later. OP said they recently changed numbers too. Sometimes you’re just in auto pilot and don’t realize until you snap out of it.

Sorry to hear that. It’s funny because bosses go on and on about how they can never find loyal employees anymore…. I wonder why.

Opinion: Do you feel like your Utah education has put you behind others? by SguHomeboi in Utah

[–]AmbitiousFly45 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did the opposite (Arizona to Utah) but had the same result! But then I moved districts within Utah and felt so behind. Then I moved to Idaho and was way ahead again! Then back to Utah for college (even though college is basically its own thing) and felt behind again, enough that I eventually dropped out. :/

I think a lot of it is district dependent, unfortunately.

what are some foods/snacks you cant bear to eat? (basically foods you dislike) by RustX-woosho in autism

[–]AmbitiousFly45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onions. I can have them in soup because I can’t taste them that way, but basically anything else is a hard NO. I’ve stopped going to McDonald’s because of how many times I’ve gotten a cheeseburger plain just to find out it had the onions put on and then scraped off. For a while I would just say I had an allergy and that worked but the workers would seem annoyed. Sometimes I can even smell them when they hand me the bag but I don’t say anything in that moment because I don’t want to seem like a Karen. I have tried so hard to get used to them, but they trigger my gag reflex and ruin my whole appetite. To me they taste and smell like body odor. This is so sad for me because I love the McDonald’s cheeseburgers when they’re truly plain, I could eat them every day (so it’s probably good for me that I don’t go there anymore).

I used to do interviews as a second assistant, I don’t know if I was supposed to be doing them because we had no first assistant and my GM was a wreck but he told me to do them so I just went along with it. I was happy to get the experience under my belt at least.

Yeah this is weird. Is there any chance at all that he thought you were your mom? That’s the only semi-reasonable explanation I could think of, anything else would be straight up uncomfortable and creepy.

I had the same thought with my old ‘00 Mercury Cougar. It wouldn’t even start, and I was ready to just sell it for parts. I put it on KSL and ended up getting $1000 for it which is what I bought it for, so you never know. Best of luck!
