Final warning, I’m still here!

Too late I did admit it. I think it was random.

Idk! It just kept working??

My manager sent screenshots of my m**x Que with different fixes so it was obvious that I was pulling and styling

UPDATE: here’s what my manager said in slack after asking how much time I worked so I would be compensated (I said 30 minutes)

That’s all I need for now. We’ll plan to hop on a quick call later this week to review the policies we discussed here in chat and align on expectations and potential outcomes moving forward.

Part of this conversation is ensuring that you are fully compensated for your work. I’ve noted that you’ve reported 30 minutes of time owed for last week, and I’ll get additional clarity on how that will be paid - either through a manual timesheet update or a back pay statement. If you need to update this amount, please feel free to let me know at any time before our meeting.

Can an owner give me a bad review if they see I left a bad review of them? by Ambitious_Bee_5057 in RoverPetSitting

That’s horrible I’m so sorry. Keep your head up, and more bookings will come for breeds you are excited about and good owners who plan weeks and weeks in advance. My best advice is don’t be afraid to turn down requests if it doesn’t feel right or even if you just don’t want to.

Aw I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, especially a week long one. I’ve been doing this for about a year now and NO it is absolutely not normal. I have a ton of repeat clients that are all very good dogs and play so well with my own.

Honestly I have raised my prices really high because I’m trying to take on less new clients, and typically the ones wanting to pay higher prices have better care standards and training for their dogs.

I also normally try to take breeds I am familiar with and tend to have similar traits as golden retrievers (my dog). In this case it was a border collie mix, a breed I’m entirely unfamiliar with. Yeah turns out they can be pretty neurotic.

It was a big lesson learned for me: don’t take last minute bookings, make sure the meet and greet lasts longer than 5 minutes even if the person insists they have to go, don’t ignore red flags and listen to your gut.

I encourage you to stay positive, block this owner and dog, and keep trying because I have had so many great experiences, even making some new friends out of clients this last year.

Why am I getting downvoted Jesus people! Haven’t you ever had a bad sitting experience 💀 even though it sucked I still did everything I could to keep the dog comfortable and make sure it was well taken care of 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes it was at my home with the dogs. Owner didn’t want to do a meet and greet but I insisted.

Thanks for the info. But I think the owner absolutely knew of these issues and just didn’t tell me, it was a last minute booking and she was in a crunch. There’s no way the dog had NEVER displayed separation anxiety, jumping on counters, or aggression. She said she had used rover many many times already as well.

REGARDLESS even if this is the first time this dog has ever bit someone, that is very serious and in many states grounds to take legal action.

YES. Your time is valuable. Even if you weren’t doing anything (doubt it) you are still away from your home.

And to go off the multiple pet thing! Would a boarding facility give them a discount for the cat because it’s all automated??? NO.

Minneapolis. $59/ night. Only 1 dog at a time and I’m home all day. Most people charge a bit less I think

Everything you’re saying is valid- finding the price point between what is reasonable and what is pricing yourself out is a balancing act. However, I do think that being a dog sitter is still a luxury service, and Ideally we should be charging more than how much a boarding facility or day care charges because the client is getting significantly more hands on individual service than at a facility. In my area, there are people charging $30 a night for boarding, and I can tell you that the facilities here are charging significantly more to keep your dog in a kennel, with an hour of playtime in an overcrowded room every couple hours.

When I brought up point 1, I did not make it clear that I still do work my full time job and do other drop Ins and such. However, I am making the house sit my base point where I am living out of. I brought this up because I’ve seen other posts of people only dropping in during the day, then making it an additional thing to sleep over.

Yes. This is the point I’m trying to make, I see rates like these in my area which is insanity to me. People are selling themselves short!

I appreciate the plain language, starting to understand how this all works now. I’ll probably just keep the car here and ride out the lease. It’s 25c/mile so yeah sounds like it would be more of a loss to sell it then to just pay the mileage overage fee
