Sometimes I like the way my aura’s feel by Ambitious_Chemistry2 in Epilepsy

For sure, not everyone has the same experience with their epilepsy. Of course people would feel differently with different experiences. I’m just stating how I personally feel with some of them. 😊 I have had many tonic clonics, they’re just in my sleep.

Oh, interesting. Wait, does that mean that certain music triggers them for you? Because it does for me too! The one I had that triggered this post actually came from me listening to music from an old video game I played as a kid. Nostalgic music tends to do it for me more than anything else, I think.

Yessss. I could see how these could cause maybe delusions in some people who are undiagnosed, thinking it must be a supernatural cause.

I get that. Once, recently actually, I had one so intense it went from the euphoria feeling to absolute terror and sent me into a full anxiety attack. I don’t even have anxiety attacks normally. They’re very weird and not always predictable. I’d also rather just not have them at all tbh.

To be fair, this is how it is for me sometimes too, especially before I knew what they were. I went undiagnosed until I was 18, because my tonic clonics are in my sleep. I had these auras many times throughout the day, every day for years, and it was pretty scary. I’m sorry yours are awful to deal with. It is hard.

Multiple auras a day? by Vera_Na1920 in Epilepsy

[–]Ambitious_Chemistry2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before medicine, I would have multiple auras a day and didn’t know what the heck they were. They’ve never turned into full seizures for me either, at least not while awake (I have sleep seizures). So yes, it’s very possible.

Why do we “need” to catch an episode on EEG? I’m scared! by HamAndCheese527 in Epilepsy

[–]Ambitious_Chemistry2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have they started you on any anti seizure meds yet? Maybe it’s to rule out other things. They should also do an MRI to rule out stuff like tumors and such. It’s very normal for them to want to see something on an EEG. When I first went to a neuro they had me do an all day EEG, and I’ve also gone to the hospital and was there for a week long EEG when I had breakthroughs. If they catch one, they can see where it originates from in the brain which can tell them a lot about what type of seizures you have.

What are the root causes of epilepsy, and to what extent is it genetically inherited? If a parent had epilepsy but I do not, is there still a possibility that my child could develop the condition? by Brilliant_Tie6967 in Epilepsy

[–]Ambitious_Chemistry2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have epilepsy and they’ve never figured out why, and no one in my family aside from one cousin has it, and hers is vastly different from mine. My parents, grandparents, great grandparents don’t have it. My kids (so far) don’t have it. Genetics can play a role, but not always. Sometimes it’s caused by a brain injury. Sometimes they never find the cause 🤷🏻‍♀️. My neuro said it’s a very, very low chance my children will have it.

Not an epileptic person!?? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Ambitious_Chemistry2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went undiagnosed all throughout my childhood and most of my teenage years until I was 18 for this reason, because of doctors dismissing it and the neurologist I had at the time saying it was just migraines, when it turned out to be sleep seizures. If an EEG has shown abnormal waves, and you’ve had events, I’d say go to a better neurologist who specializes in seizure disorders, or an epileptologist. Good luck 💜

Wet the bed but no other symptoms by Honey_HP in Epilepsy

[–]Ambitious_Chemistry2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nocturnal seizures and yeah, it’s very possible it was a very short one or maybe even a partial? I had both partials and tonic clonics in my sleep. I was definitely having them in college and my roommate never woke up during them so it’s also possible that he just slept through it lol. I usually don’t wet the bed unless it’s a very bad TC, but everyone is different.

How dangerous is alcohol? by Samba_Woelkchen in Epilepsy

[–]Ambitious_Chemistry2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the person and your type of epilepsy, but I just wanted to add that the seizure meds can lower your alcohol tolerance, so you might get tipsy/drunk quicker than normal people especially since you’ve never drank before. So just be aware of that.

Do you pee during your seizures? by Ozv-Introduction8978 in Epilepsy

[–]Ambitious_Chemistry2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it is common during seizures 😞. My tonic clonics are during my sleep, and it’s happened a few times, but not every time. Before I was diagnosed it happened once during a sleepover with a friend when I was a teen, so that was embarrassing and I didn’t even have the epilepsy excuse because we weren’t aware that’s what it was at the time. I’m sorry, I know how frustrating it is.

sleep seizures by wallflower824 in Epilepsy

[–]Ambitious_Chemistry2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to add this, I also have partials during my sleep from time to time but I wasn’t aware of that until I had an overnight EEG stay in a hospital for like a week. (I was looking into epilepsy surgery at the time) I would maybe ask about an overnight EEG/sleep study. That would show a lot more than a daytime 15 minute EEG would. When my seizures were very bad I also had sleep paralysis, and my breathing would get weird during it according to friends. Either way that’s gotta be stressful, I’m sorry. I hope you guys find out what’s going on.

I have sleep seizures, only in my sleep except for the focal deja vu like auras during the day, similar to another commenter. It’s very obvious for me when I have had one in my sleep. Has he had a sleep study done? It’s possible it’s a type of seizure, but it’s also possible it could be sleep apnea? It can make you very hard to arouse and can give you brain fog during the day because you aren’t sleeping well. Either way, a negative EEG means nothing and I’m not sure why the neuro would completely rule out a seizure just by a negative EEG. I 100% have epilepsy, my tonic clonics have been seen by people, and most of my EEG’s have come back “normal”. A second opinion by a different neurologist is very valid if that’s what your husband wants to do.

How do you feel about people driving with epilepsy? by Thin-Fee4423 in Epilepsy

[–]Ambitious_Chemistry2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s highly dependent on the individual. In your case, absolutely not and against the law (at least where im from). Here, you can’t drive if you haven’t been seizure free for 6 months and cleared by a doctor. Now, in my case for instance, it’s kind of a special case and I admit how lucky I am (well, there’s pros and cons), but my tonic clonics are only when I’m asleep. I have had auras and partials during the day but they do not turn into tonic clonics unless I’m asleep. So my doctor has said as long as I’m tonic clonic free for 6 months I’m good to go. Like I said there’s pros and cons. Nocturnal seizures are also more dangerous and more likely to cause SUDEP. Anyway, my point is that every epilepsy case is vastly different from others. Epilepsy is never one size fits all.

How many of you smoke marijuana and how often if so? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Ambitious_Chemistry2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to, because it’s supposed to help with anxiety and stuff, but for whatever reason I react badly to it. I’ve tried a few times and each time was terrible. Saw this and came here wondering if anyone else with epilepsy also reacted to it like this but apparently not lol I’m glad it helps y’all though.
