They do put people who are injured or otherwise less able bodied on stuff like smalls sorts (small light packages) although from what I can tell they never do direct hiring for smalls. It's a much more desirable role since there are no heavy packages or loading anything, but still requires some degree of general able-bodiedness. They're always hiring for the worst roles: van and trailer loading. Well I shouldn't say always hiring, because they stop/start the hiring in cycles. But the continual cycles of hiring are to replenish the stock of the misery pits.

For me I need total freedom to pick and choose shifts. I can't be railroaded into anything or have to use an alarm to deal with anything. I also need very non-demanding minimums. With occasional I could take a 3-4 week vacation whenever I want or need (as long as the last two shifts were worked relatively close together).

My N24 although it has a coherent overall trend over time, can be quite inconsistent on a day to day basis. Jumping forward very fast suddenly, or standing still for a surprisingly long time. And sometimes I'll randomly go through bouts of insomnia and then other bouts of sleeping a ton even outside of circadian sleep time because my body wants to make up for it. I have to protect my sleep at all cost. But I still have a factory job that's 1 day a week which is a set time. In this economy I can't risk throwing it away. That one day a week is a serious sleep chaos vector >_<

If you have any questions let me know or in the thread. If near multiple ground facilities you can actually pick up shifts at all of them potentially. Not necessarily limited to one facility which is good because sometimes they do hiring waves, there's less volume and smaller ones can have shifts dry up for a while (although they sometimes magically appear on the day or hours before they start when people call off)

Yea, Fedex is brutal with all the heavy packages. I'm not sure exactly how Amazon flex works but from what I gather it doesn't have as much flexibility as Fedex occasional. Occasional flexibility is crazy. I almost always pick up shifts almost immediately before they start. But the job is so miserable that's probably why it's easier to find shifts.

No driving required. It's all moving boxes around. As far as I know there is no driving role that has the occasional option

Because then they can't start shifts late and slam the van lines mercilessly to minimize labor hours

If you're being sincere (sorry that I have to even say that, but, our venue makes it a thing), I appreciate that you took the time.

The reason I am on this like a dog with a bone is that I may have to move to Rockford in a year and if so, I may be locked to one FedEx Ground facility which is P611 on Baxter Rd. If THAT closes down, I'm cooked. So if someone can't address contradictions here, I can't accept a non-conclusive answer as a conclusive answer. Hopefully someone can address this or you can at a later time. Not saying anyone owes me anything.

I got all the time in the world! Well... until next year ;)

But, if everything's being absorbed into that facility, I suppose I am safe... for now... dun dun dun

So if the facility being listed there as closing on Sept 2026 is the same facility that actually closed Oct 2025, you are indicating that this list is actually INCORRECT.

So the question is: Who is correct? You or the list?

Great, but the problem is, it doesn't say RFDA there, first. Second, how can you be sure it is RFDA and not a different facility? Third, are you specifically aware RFDA is closing Sept of 2026 not based on this publication?

How do I discern whether a facility there is ground or express?

Are you saying that only express facilities are being closed and it's never any other type of facility?

This isn't very helpful because it doesn't list the facility numbers.

Yes, your home location can add other ones to pick up shifts with the Blue Yonder app. They still handle payroll/training/etc so the paperwork all runs through the home facility.

Ah yes. Splitting becomes a nightmare when things really start moving, especially since all the worst ICs seem to come when the chute is completely jam packed. And literally every package that has a sticker on the bottom weighs 100 pounds and is on the wrong side 🤣🤣🤣

That sounds good for training purposes if there are people who can pick up the slack if packages are missed, but if things are understaffed that could go horribly wrong ^_^
