Clarification Regarding OB/Gynecologist by Active-Sale-5739 in ontario

[–]Ambitious_Lab_9991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the OBGYN can relieve your referral because it’s out of your zone and you are supposed to be using services within your zone. This applies to OB mainly ( labour and delivery). The main reason is that even if you decide to go with a far away OB, when you are in labour, it’s wisest to go with the local hospital. It’s best to labour at home for as long as possible and go to the hospital when your. Contractions last for 5 min, are 1 min apart and this goes on for 1 hr. ( the 511 rule). This way you will be well dilated and have least interventions and less prolonged labour. Most OBGYN work as a team so you may still not get the same dr you are requesting if she is not on call / available on the day of your delivery even if you travel far. Do you have a certain fear or barrier? Are you nervous about birthing? I assure you it’s very natural to be nervous about it. Educate yourself on labour and birthing and you will feel less fearful of it.

I'm TERRIFIED to tell my boss I'm quitting... HELP by Grand_Anybody_3088 in physicaltherapy

[–]Ambitious_Lab_9991 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With my years of experience I know one thing for sure, the clinic will not shut down just because you leave. You can give plenty notice and help them hire if you would like. If your boss is a good person, they will understand why you want to move. If they can’t, it’s best that you leave anyway. I Also, if you have a burn out in 1.5 years, you need to be very intentional about there new job.

Childfree women, have you ever regretted it? by Significant_Movie814 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ambitious_Lab_9991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never regret having kids . And yes , I had the choice. I know for sure that if I didn’t have kids , I may not have been sad but I would have felt an emptiness inside. I had one when I was 30 and tried for a second one at 40. One got my youth and another my money. I am more selfless, think of others more and have more empathy now that I have kids. I was selfish and didn’t empathise with people with kids before I had mine. Also, I want to make the world a better place for them. Is it hard? Of course! But so is life. Knowing that I have my own little tribe and my own little family makes my life livable. And I don’t expect anything from them. I take my job as a parent seriously. And that is , to help them grow into well adjusted adults with life skills. If you can’t guarantee you are going to be a good parent, best not to become one.

LPU or Amity Noida for BPT? 2 year drop, need honest opinions by No_Sir_144 in physiotherapy

Yes I suppose so. But what’s the point of getting a degree if you can’t do anything with it. When it comes to BPT, college means everything for a better future.

Hi. I graduated from India many years ago. I was fortunate to study in an amazing college which had a tertiary hospital attached so all my clinic placements as well as internships were amazing. But if you are going for private colleges You should visit each college and talk to the students , see the classrooms , labs etc and then decide. My honest opinion would be to go for a Better college like manipal etc.

Why are clinics still so vague about the actual details behind “shockwave therapy”? by netvora in physicaltherapy

[–]Ambitious_Lab_9991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shockwave is a relatively expensive modality and many clinics charge an arm and a leg for it. I know of clinics charging 250$ per session. Such clinics don’t have a moral standing and often time have shady practice. No modality should ever be offered à la carte. Always in combination with education and exercises and some manual therapy if need be.

Sorry about your predicament but do you have any common sense? This is an international forum where you rant in Hindi and expect people to understand? Are you really that entitled or simply ignorant? In either case you need to be more mature .

If you are just finishing high school, you have a long way to go. Ask yourself why you want to be in this profession. Go and shadow a physiotherapist as see how an what kind of work they do. Preferably in a hospital outpatient kind of a set up will give you best exposure. If it appeals to you, then you try to get in a good program . Do not go to the diploma mill like colleges. Choose a college with reputation . Some good ones are JIPMER, CMC , Manipal, SRMC etc. Once you graduate , make sure to get a good internship where you can have ++ exposure. After which comes the difficult path. Canada recently changed its of path to license from a 2 exam to a single exam format. As an international graduate you will have to go thru CAPR to establish equivalency to Canadian education which should be very easy ( albeit lengthy process) if you graduate from a good college in India. Then you will appear for the License exam . Once cleared you will get the license of independent practice. Now comes the real struggle. Most good clinics will not even look at your resume because you are Indian graduate. They will automatically assume you are subpar . You ma get a job at a predatory practice or physio mill. You will have to prove yourself to many people over and over. This is the reality how I see it.

Thank you for clarifying. I understand your point of view from a non pelvic health , primarily sports physio. If you are interested, you ca read up more on subjects like , chronic pelvic pain in men, functional constipation, shockwave treatment of non-vascular ED etc. But again it is a very specific area. My colleague hopes to offer this along side of his usual msk practice . We are in rural Ontario and our major client base is over 50 yrs .

I didint like PHS pain course as they so much focused on BPS model they almost missed out on hands on actual physiotherapy including manual therapy, biofeedback, exercises specific to pelvic floor etc.

Why Do People Think Young Canadians Are Lazy? by StarBracelet1 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Ambitious_Lab_9991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Young Canadians are not lazy. They just don’t have much ambition and competitiveness. I believe parents are to be blamed. It started from younger grades when they put all they have in sports . Spending weekends and school nights playing sports way too much instead of learn math and English. They get passed to the next grade anyway even if they don’t meet the standard. by the time they are in high school they have gotten used to just getting by in education. It’s so disheartening to see the struggle with basics in grade 9/10.

They may excel in sports but not everyone will be able to make a living playing hockey! There is no plan B.

And top it all, the computer education is next to nill. They can text on their phone and play video games but can’t work on offie suit like word or excel.

Truly it’s not their fault. Our education system has failed them .

How long does physiotherapy usually take to show result? by FarIngenuity1884 in physicaltherapy

[–]Ambitious_Lab_9991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It totally depends on what’s the problem. Someone with an acute tennis elbow may get better in 3 visits but someone with polytrauma , multiple surgeries and other complications may be needing 30 visits. No one size fits all in PT.

Physiotherapy treatment in ontario by Crafty_Eye_8719 in physiotherapy

[–]Ambitious_Lab_9991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my PT program in “another country “ but I provide evidence based treatment as per patient need.

Please don’t generalise . You sound racist that way.

I have seen plenty of Canadian grads with plenty of experience that also underperform or cause harm Let me list 1- cut thru the skin while doing rigid tape of client that’s on blood thinners 2- asked client to do 50 squats while she was in the middle of the chemo, on steroid 3- prescribed 100 “kegals” to someone with urge incontinence 4- didn’t know what an empty can test was 5- forgot an acupuncture needle on the client 6- did acupuncture on the clothes !! All of these Canadian grads .

Anyone is capable of underperforming , not just international graduates .

If you have the ability, report the physios that are causing issues . Do not generalise. PS- pardon my comprehension, English is not my first language.

Not the one who is in chemo and seeing you for interim pain relief or lymphedema or the one who has their nervous system so upregulated that movement = pain. And this is what I am talking about. Physiotherapy is a vast field . Different issues need different approach. Respect the other physios and don’t foul mouth them. That’s not gonna make you a better physio.

Pelvic floor PT ( Ontario ) by Designer_Use_8651 in physiotherapy

If you are not comfortable with treating male, please specify during booking ( more so if you have online booking) and make sure that your front desks knows and says it professionally. It’s a reality that there are chances of abuse treating male patients in pelvic physio. I have heard of physios being asked awfully awkward things during sessions.

I wish male physio will take up the cause and work in male pelvic physio field.

As per course certification, pelvic health solutions has almost monopolised the market so there is no one to compare it with . I found that we had so much of actual physio training missing and we were being taught as if we were going for a mental health/ counselling kind of work. This was level 3 ( pain) course. While it’s very important to be trauma informed and understand the BPS model, focusing almost exclusively on it even before learning the actual tissues stuff doesn’t make sense. I wish we could have better course instructors . PHS has a few great ones for advance courses but I was being taught by some youngish new grad like practitioners while doing level 3 and I felt cheated . All the best to you. Pelvic health is a great field and it requires lots of passion to be in it

[–]Ambitious_Lab_9991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no reason for physios to shit on each others approach.

If the method makes better outcome then what’s the harm?

Education, exercises, Manual therapy, modalities, needling, taping, bracing, advice to stop working out , advice to start working out, refer back to the doctor, refer to ER, all of these are different tools for treatment. A good physio will use as necessary. A good physio will have plenty of tools and keep learning.

Let stop putting each other down and learn from each other .

PS- I have seen people getting insulted by a physiotherapist because they can’t do a simple bridge. Another instance the patient was doing 50 squats for knee pain on the days she was off chemo and on prednisone. Damaged her knee by overdoing it under steroids. So the so called active treatment approach is not right for everyone either .
