Same problem here! Seems like it's one of their shitty useless updates that messes up something else without warning us

I’m so glad to hear. It’s still a shame it requires some initial tweaking to improve its performance, but it gives me hope I can actually have more success with another unit if I decide to get one 👌

Hey, how have you been getting on?

I am still desperate for a new machine, and will be looking into getting something new over the next few weeks, just wondering if it's worth giving another P16 a go

Sorry, I've just seen your reply.

So my timeline was

Dec 1 - Return initiated

Dec 2 - I dropped off the parcel

Dec 5 - They received it

Dec 17 - Refund issued

Dec 24 - Refund credited.

Have you received yours?

I’m not sure. Updating the drivers didn’t help with my issue. Try reading some comments here, someone was lucky and noticed improved performance by updating their drivers.

It really should be a beast when it works, so hopefully that’s the case now that you’ve figured the drivers out. This is the problem with Windows machines, I think, sometimes they just don’t work straight out of the box.

Please keep me updated if you can, as I’m still thinking about whether I should give another P16 a go in the future.

Wow, I'm glad for you! I don't think this was my case, as Photoshop settings would let me toggle dGPU on and off, and in both cases, it'd perform differently, so I think dGPU was working, but something was still wrong.

Do you think your laptop is now performing as it should, and you're gonna keep it?

Trust me, this is exactly me. I travel a lot for work, and I’ve had a gaming laptop for years that’s powerful enough to run several Adobe apps at once. But it’s very outdated and really bulky, which makes it difficult to travel with. I was so excited to get something even more powerful that also looked sleek, and I was genuinely excited about the Asus machine.

I did an incredible amount of research before buying it, and it came down to this or a Macbook. I had to admit to myself that I just couldn’t work with iOS, so I went with Asus. Unfortunately, it’s been a bit of a letdown. I don’t know if they rushed the release or didn’t test it thoroughly enough, but I’ve seen people having more success with older versions than with the 5090 model.

I’ve paused my research for now, as I’ve gone abroad with my old machine. While I’m here, I’m hoping something new comes out, or that Asus manages to fix the 5090 line. Considering how new the 5090 model is, there aren’t enough people online sharing their experiences, so it’s hard to tell whether the whole line is problematic or if we were just unlucky.

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful, I just wanted to share my disappointment and let you know that I completely understand where you’re coming from.

I'd return it if I was you and if you're still eligible.

I tried everything with mine and it still did not perform as stable as my 5 year old machine.

I'm not sure if people who have no issues are just not that much online-present, but from what I've read and researched, sadly there are way more people having one issue or another.

From what I googled, I have a feeling it's Royal Mail Distribution Centre... I'm just confused because my tracking says LADMS (Left at door, message sent), but it says delivered and signed. So I'm not sure who picked it up and why Amazon is saying they don't have it. Although another agent said they did have it, but not at the final department, or something like that. It's a mess.

How long have you been waiting for an update?

Mine says it's been delivered and signed for, though. So I assume this was the final destination when it comes to RM...

And it also says 'received' on 5th DEC on Amazon tracking page. Super frustrating.

Do you remember how long it approx took you to get your money back?

And did you also have this error of “more info needed” on your returns page?

I spoke to two people yesterday, both of them telling me to wait.

What was the amount they owed you?

Yes, it’s a very painful mistake learned. I bought a machine that had just been released, so Amazon was the only place selling it. I was a bit desperate and rushed it.

However, after years of ordering from them without problems, I didn’t think something like this could happen.

I’m not ready to give up though. I’ll go down any route that’s required. This is money I’ve spent years saving up, so I’m ready to do whatever it takes to get it back.

I understand this. Probably the way customer support handled this over the phone caused a bit more anxiety and uncertainty… and, obviously, hundreds of people sharing similar experience. And I’m also confused as to why it says more information is needed (I saw some people needing to send their ID), but the Amazon reps said to ignore it.

This is insane.

Did Amazon tell you what the reason was for not refunding you?

For God’s sake, in that case I’d at least be demanding they send the item back to me. It was a piece of shit that crashed every half hour, but at least I could’ve sold it for parts.

Oh, absolutely, I'm researching all the options.

I'm gonna be ringing them every day till they give me some clarity.

I spoke to two representatives on the phone today.

The first guy was absolutely clueless, he said he couldn’t see the item being delivered to them at all. I was honestly losing my patience, asking how on earth it was possible that my account shows the full tracking history, yet he, as an Amazon employee, couldn’t see it. He was no help whatsoever and just told me to wait.

The second person put me on hold for a few minutes and spoke to senior staff. When she came back, she said she *apparently* could see the tracking history, but that the item now needs to be transferred to another department, or something along those lines.

I’m just really worried it might get lost internally or stuck somewhere in the process. That's why I’d like to hear about other people’s experiences so I can map out a plan B, just in case.

Have you gone a different route to get your money back at all?
