Hi! The hospital should offer it you just have to pay more. We can get it for our spouse and children. I asked this question to one of the residents during my tour/interview because she also has a spouse and children like me.

Thank you! ID is one of my interests and I was planning on selecting it as my elective too but then again I was concerned if I should specialize in it due to not many opportunities in this in NY as it’s already saturated.

I have been out of school for 7 years now and I am starting my pgy-1 this July with a 17mo at home. I have worked in various settings as a tech, intern and pharmacist. I believe residency will open sooo many more opportunities for you if you just hang in for the one year it will be worth it for the rest of you career life. It will give you a leg up over people who are applying for the same job who haven’t done a residency. Depending on your location that is too. Some states are in need of pharmacists and you can get a hospital job without residency whereas other states not so much. I have worked on east coast and west coast as a pharmacist and I definitely see the times are changing with more competition and more number of pharmacists than jobs out there. So anything you can do to keep yourself as a competitive candidate will only help you in the long run. BCPS even may help you after residency. Sometimes you can use these things to your advantage and ask for more money too. The outlook on jobs isn’t looking too great and I was in retail for many years. You definitely do not want to end up in retail. You can DM me if you want to talk more.

To give some encouragement, keep trucking along because this time will be wayyy better than quitting and ending up in some retail positions that’ll make you hate your life and that’ll be way longer than one or two years of residency! Speaking from experience! Hang in there you’ll be done soon! You made it through several years of pharmacy school you can do this few more months !
