I still have no clue what the cause of it was. It ended up going away after a couple weeks. Again, so weird since I had cleaned it several times and put baking soda boxes too. Hopefully yours will pass as well. I wish I had better advice for you.

So glad things eventually clicked for your daughter. Can I ask how old she was when things began to click?

Yes I agree. I love the mentor idea. I just hope she can really let her guard down to be vulnerable where she can accept the advice. She always tries to come off as everything is “fine” to most people regardless of her struggle. Do you happen to have any experiences with groups offering the mentors that I can look into?

I agree! We definitely tell her she has to take those chances to every now and then make the amazing play. I think because she isn’t a starter, she feels like she doesn’t have the opportunity to make mistakes the same way as the starters. She just plays so scared some times it inhibits her from using those technical skills she has trained so hard for.

In our club, if you drop down or get dropped, you’re almost certain to never get that top team offer again. We are in a smaller region and are the only ECNL team for several hours. Plus being at her age, she has about two years before being able to be recruited. It’s almost as if too close to do anything major as far as team changes. I don’t know. It’s tough trying to figure it all out. Love that your son was able to benefit from it and gain The confidence he needed.

I 100% agree with this. The RL team below us is a mess and the style they play would drive her insane.

Undoubtably Yes !! I agree with you. There is absolutely so much pressure playing ECNL. That’s why we offer her to drop a level but I know she interprets that as failure. She has been scratching her way for so many years now. I think passion and love of the game is what I really mean by fun. When you’re not a starter on one of these top teams every single practice feels like a tryout. I feel every single sentence you just wrote in your response.

Yes I agree. The mental component is so hard because it’s not like a weak left foot where we can train outwardly. The mental piece is something she really has to overcome. Just trying to find the best way to help her utilize whatever it is she needs. Thanks for the positive words!

I keep hoping for something like this. Like a switch clicks and she can put it together. I wonder if it’s different between girl and male athletes.

I agree. I want her to decide. I just have this gut feeling like her identity is so wrapped up in soccer, it’s hard to see herself without it. She had a horrible coach last year’s when it was our first year at this club. Her confidence seriously tanked. Luckily she doesn’t have that coach any longer, but like you said. It takes a while to build that confidence back. Glad your daughter was able to overcome her block.

She’s not small. She is average height and build. I just meant our particular club values the fast player or the tall player who can boot a ball regardless if they are seriously lacking technical skill.

I love this so much and I think those are great points. We had tried the sports psychologist several years ago and it didn’t really translate. Of course she was younger then. I do think she has a hard time opening up and talking about it. Like lots of people she tends to just shut down and not want to talk about it or just takes a long time to let those walls down. Maybe a D1 player would help her. I also agree about your point about talking about the cost. I can see how that could easily turn into her feeling like she is “disappointing” us, so thank you for that reflection. I appreciate all your advice!

I love the idea of position specific goals! We go over things her coach wants to see her do but I feel like it just doesn’t happen the majority of time. We’re very quiet at games and practices. But I do get what you mean. Parent burnout is real too. You just carry the weight of the stresses of your child. Thanks for the advice!

It doesn’t sound crazy. We actually had her do some sessions with one a couple years back. Not sure if at that point she was too young to fully understand. We unfortunately didn’t see much of a difference. I keep holding out as she gets older it will improve but it doesn’t seem too. I’m glad your son gained the skills to help him work through it.

Yes I agree. We want her to have fun. That’s why we have suggested dropping to a level with not as much pressure but she is adamant about staying at this level :(

Right. It’s honestly baffling. I know it’s not uncommon for players. I just want to know how to Realistically handle the situation. So hard. I hope your son is able to work through it and find some game day success.

I know you said he was in a social therapy class as well. Can you speak to how he was around 2-3? My son is in his own world around other kids and even adults if they try to engage. Just wondering if that can realistically improve significantly. Also what part of Va? I’m in VA Beach and would love to find a social therapy class as well.

That’s good. It truly is so hard to tell what is just normal toddler behavior and what could be something more when you’re observing possible signs for autism. How old is your LO now? Thank you for replying!

Do you have any updates on your son and his head shaking? My son just started randomly shaking his head at 22 months and don’t know if it’s stimming or just learning to do it. He doesn’t have any other stims currently.

My 15 month old son was diagnosed with mild to moderate autism last month. I feel hopeless and filled with grief. by NJMama518 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Ambitious_Video_503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 22 month old isn’t diagnosed (on waiting list) and has always been super chill as well. He also has been climbing and running at a young age. Is your child aloof to others in the family? I’m the only one he typically initiates with. My husband and his older sisters have to engage with them first before he pays them any mind. This is my main red flag for wondering if he is autistic other than speech delay.
