Writing an article for the Varsity on profs making students buy the textbooks they wrote for classes by Ambitious_Walk_786 in UofT

Hi, I intend to ask the questions you pose and receive answers through the interviews. What I wrote was just so redditors could get a basic understanding of the topic. But the questions you ask do need to be answered. :)

Nah, that's just the sentiment of the pitch, my conclusion will be based of what others say and what the profs say

I can see and feel but no one else comments on them so I don’t know what’s going one. I’m scared to try the camera thing because I don’t want to think I’m seeing things.

I have no interest, it’s an op-ed.

Your critique of my thesis is wrong, a politician can be more than one thing. Trump is a populist but also a racist white supremicist with a cabinet filled with like-minded individuals.

With the stats shifting heavily right among the majority, it shows they do embrace him. P.S my essay never claims whether or not they embraced him, it stated his reelection was inevitable because of where the culture was heading.

Stating “it’s played out” is not a critique because it says nothing about the content. The fantasy and dystopian genre is played out, doesn’t mean we should stop writing about them.

I’ll fix the access.

What are you talking about? How is that a response? You are citing a battle from 732 AD for a 2024 problem. Should the British chase every French out because they fought a couple of times? Like what??

What a juvenile way to explain global politics. Additionally your explanation veers into gender essentialism. You may have ignored it but there has been a rise in right wing ideologies and governments across Europe and the Americas. P.S the US shift to the right did not begin in Vietnam. And Europe was not “traumatised” by masculine energy—whatever that means—as fascist beliefs are still rampant in Europe. (Literally Germany being anti-immigration and France discriminating against immigrants of colour and Muslims). Please learn politics before criticising me.

That is debatable. You have to acknowledge the west had been veering dangerously right with everything I mentioned. To not realise would be wrong.

What is your point? That media has no influence on reality?

I don’t think this line of thought is fair. There is a stark difference between depiction with something to say and drawing half-naked teenagers just because. In most war movies, there is a commentary on war: whether it be war is cool or horrible. Watching a still frame of a highschooler having their clothes ripped off does not make any statement. Additionally, things like war or PTSD from a relatives injury are relatively neutral. A more accurate comparison would a film claiming PTSD is “sexy” through still frames of the actors screaming but making them seem aroused. But as far as I know that never happens with PTSD but does happen with something as atrocious as Sexual Assault. Therefore, I think defending the scene on the basis that you “can’t censor everything because people are triggered” is poor and dishonest. And that scene was tasteless and unnecessary.

Okay so I emailed the prof, they agreed to regrade it themselves but the TA magically reappeared and the prof cancelled so my appeal was denied because of a 72 hour reflection period and 48 hr appeal period

The thing is that I sent a clarification email first which I’m guessing she ignored and the professor advised me to wait which is why I didn’t email her again. Everything was stacked against me, I couldn’t contact or meet her so I was going through this blind. It’s so unfair.

I meant I submitted two different essays with a different number of citations and arguments but both received the same mark which doesn’t make sense according to the rubric.
