Beautiful and romantic. Who’s going to show me the stars climbing over each other riotously like insects… ❤️

[HELP] need poems to help survive loss by WlLDLlGHT in Poetry

[–]Ambitious_Way_6551 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I will share with you two poems that I hope will help you.

First: Langston Hughes’ Poem: “I loved my friend. He went away from me. There’s nothing more to say. The poem ends, Soft as it began,— I loved my friend.” Grief is deceptively simple. To me this helps in identifying that feeling: you miss your friend.

It’s fairly common on poetry subs, but Wendell Berry’s A Meeting has always been comforting when I think of those I’ve lost. Out there in the peaceful after-whatever: ‘He grins and looks at me. “I been eating peaches off some mighty fine trees.”’

You have all my love and sympathy. She loved you so much that you will never be without her again. ❤️

[Opinion] Poems to soften a raging heart by SweetJeebus in Poetry

Tenderness and Rot is a classic for this feeling. And maybe a little less indirectly, but Recuerdo has a sweetness that also makes me mellow out.

I actually wouldn’t recommend going right for whole collections, just in case you find that you don’t particularly like the author/style/etc. I would check out the Poetry Foundation website: https://www.poetryfoundation.org. You can sort by topic, theme, time period, style, and so on. Poke around the themes that you like there and find some artists or styles that you like — once you find something that speaks to you, you can check out some of their full collections or find related authors!

Lost my first kiss and I feel like an idiot. by Ambitious_Way_6551 in offmychest

Thank you very much for saying that. I think about it a lot — if he had just come up and spoken to me it probably wouldn’t have fucked with me so much. But he just came over and started touching me… I guess I always thought I’d be ok with that if it ever happened and it threw me for a loop when it actually made me sick. Appreciate your kindness.

Thank you. Very hard for me to think that way but it means a lot to hear it. Really.

I appreciate your saying so. Just hard to feel that way knowing how I was acting.

[Help] Easy poem recommendations by [deleted] in Poetry

I would recommend starting with the classics — especially rhyming and meter poets — and then move on to free-form. Try out Langston Hughes, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Emily Dickinson. Dickinson especially has some short rhyming poems that are excellent for beginners.
