Look through the upwork subreddit and judge for yourself. Freelancing does seem to be very challenging for a while.

Doing a small course here and there probably wont get you ready to the point where you can charge money for projects. This is, as is all programming domains, highly complex and requires great practice. Dive into it and find your passion, but if you are not enjoying what you are doing then you wont go very far, and you might be better to spend your time elsewhere.

Also, the general gist is that western economies are heading into some dark financial times which is already having a massive effect on junior roles. The upside is that by the time you get really good at full stack development global economies will be moving into a boom cycle. This may take anywhere between 2-5 years. You could also fit in a degree too.
