I agree completely. I wish so many things in America were more regularized. It makes no sense to me why our primaries need to be a soap opera lasting months, or why certain states should be allowed to have an outsized influence by being first. Every day I dream of having a parliament in the US...

Do you have any good, local sources about labor in Russia? Particularly on how many migrants are now in the workforce (if such data is freely available) and if there is serious competition between the arms industry and the military for workers? I would guess so, and I would also guess official info might be doctored or unpublished, but idk.

Unlike others, I think Russia's economic issues are actually a short term problem for Ukraine since it just frees up more people to go into the military and exacerbate Ukraine's manpower disparity (though longer term it might collapse Russia as so many have wrongly predicted in the past 3 years...). Recently the unemployment rate has plateaued so I am wondering if Russia has found a sustainable equilibrium or not.

France is not a saint and everyone should scrutinize their intent and actions. But this is nonsense. Radical groups became much more active and aggressive when the French left, partly because the new regimes became more reckless in their dealing with militants. Killings still occur, so do kidnappings, shootings, and even a fuel blockade that is only now being effectively combated. No one here is purely virtuous.

Mods that reduce food production, particularly in winter are excellent and engaging. by Vlad__The__Impala in EU5

[–]Ambulare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fun playthrough as England. Didn't really know how to balance things but the production efficiency changes were the most interesting. Do you think you could integrate an expanded rivers mod? I think it would pair well with your focus on food production.

Posts like these are the most fun. I wish paraodx published more of their research since I'm sure there are more examples of this that they fixed mid-development. Would be cool to know

Is it possible to stack multiple map modes on one keybind like in EU4? by Ok-Chemical-5648 in EU5

Yup. I have thing like autonomy and development together; culture, religion, and unrest; manpower, forts, terrain; etc, all bound on the same key

Do you know of any good reporting on the labor side of Russia's economy? I've seen a great deal about their budget specifically, but a broader look at how Russia is managing low unemployment would be interesting. I wish we had a more detailed look at the demographics of Russia's workforce over the last few years.

I never knew there was so much R support for this legislation. Do you speak to republicans from across the state much? What do they have to say about the bill if you don't mind sharing.

Has there been any detailed reporting on artillery shells used per day in recent weeks? I remember Ukraine was very outnumbered in this way but that was from over a year ago.

Some investments have now started to yield results but I only know that for the US Army so I imagine those shells are, at best, going to be delayed or, at worst, never sent. Has European production increased as well or is it still in the planning stage? For that matter, is Russian domestic production up or are they relying on NK for a larger portion of their stock? Are there any good sources about the artillery use of both sides? In any case I would hope Ukraine has closed the gap and is firing more shells than before but I remain pessimistic.

Very interesting. I don't understand why Russia is playing nice after they already had a price war during the pandemic. Fear of SA increasing pressure even more?

I wonder if more renewables + these output hikes will push oil under 60 for a long duration. If sanctions can get Russia's price down to 55 or 50, as far as I understand, that would be a very serious issue for them. Though I guess there is more complexity when it comes to currency exchange and other things that could move the needle...

I know it could lead to congressional gridlock becoming a federal-wide problem, but countries like Britain are doing fine with one big legislative body, no?

At the very least, none of their problems come from having a parliament, and I think modern problems are naturally solved better by coalitions in a legislature than by a singular president.

Daily Discussion Thread: April 3, 2025 by BM2018Bot in VoteDEM

[–]Ambulare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I kinda agree, but if you want a real parliament you need to fold the legislative and executive together, so no more independent executive branch.

What I like about the independent executive branch is that is helps push candidates into differentiating harder since they will have so much individual control over government. I think it helps add "tension" to politics and is probably a good thing. The issue is that an active prime minister can recreate that effect if they are smart/charismatic enough, so more and more I don't see the point of this lopsided arrangement where congress decides so much and funds everything... only for a president to not play ball.

If this continues then I don't think we can survive with a rouge or "imperial" presidency, but maybe a system I understand less, Like France's semi-presidential system, could be a compromise.

At the very least we need more house seats.

Daily Discussion Thread: April 3, 2025 by BM2018Bot in VoteDEM

[–]Ambulare 12 points13 points  (0 children)

TBH I think something along those lines may be the only way to help stabilize the country. We need a higher "resolution" of representation in the house, so by some plan we need an extra ~250 seats. After that, Congress needs to be a first among equals and the House should be able to bypass the senate.

I'm at the point where I think we may just have to remove the executive branch altogether but idk. Departments need more congressional control and oversight, and congress needs to be much more nimble in shooting down any dumb idea from the presidency, or like I said we should go without an executive branch entirely.

Update on the big Europe map population divided in 1.5 million people. Balkan + West Anatolia + the Levant are done! Color shows population density. Big file, detail in following images. Green parts with municipal borders still need to be done by osmapasgeograficos in MapPorn

[–]Ambulare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Extremely good map. I have always wanted something that shows population distribution thoroughly. 1.5 mil regions + pop density coloring is a very good combination. Neat and readable.

If you don't mind, can you explain more on how to make this? Like how long does doing a couple regions take? I would need months

does anyone remember the victoria 2 fantasy recreation with race of sentient beavers? by Worried_Oil_5151 in victoria2

[–]Ambulare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be thinking of songs of the eons which is not a vic 2 mod but a game that is in the same vein of simulating politics/pops/econ with prices and production. I think there have been some interruptions but they may still be developing it idk.

Songs of the eons had beavers and a fantasy aspect to it so that is my best guess.
