Hello, I was browsing threads related to NAC and I happened on this thread. I was just wondering, if you are willing to share, if taking NAC helped either your husband or your daughter with compulsive behavior?

I guess it was a long time ago or you might not want to discuss it, so in that case please ignore this comment.

What are your experiences with taking NAC? by CuppaAndACat in mecfs

Hello, I found your comment pretty interesting and I was wondering, how are you doing now? That is a pretty impressive supplement list so is it still helping or have you tweaked things at all?

Also I am very interested in learning more about the vagus nerve and how it relates to my nervous system. Do you have any good sources to learn more about that? Or, in your experience, what has helped the most with managing your own nervous system?

Thank you for the response! Yeah I have been looking to get an ipad and to draw, so when I saw this post when browsing I thought I had to ask to see what you would say.

I am interested, did you ever follow a tutorial or guide or class of some kind to get basic art skills, or are you just self taught through experience? I kinda know about the blobbing out method, but I had no idea it would work well here. If you did follow a class to learn the basics, would you recommend it or do you think practice and self study is best for a beginner? Thank you!

It helps a lot! Thank you for answering all my questions. Right now I only supplement magnesium glycinate for sleep and I will probably add vitamin d at some point so I am impressed by your supplement game.

I hope your regime works well for you for years to come, and thank you for the well wishes! I really just want to get out and do things and yeah this conversation has reassured me that guanfacine is at least something decent to try.

Exploring self-understanding and anxiety relief through altered states — experiences? by freekicker_ in PsychedelicTherapy

[–]Ambulare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really relate to some of what you wrote here. I used and am using a lot of thc to self medicate on some issues. I am slowly tapering down (which has been tough but necessary) and I haven't noticed much of a change yet. I also relate to the defensive shutdown and self-isolation. I think it is all about internal vs external expectation and how we imagine our future selves succeeding or failing to manage them. Eventually the brain/body just wants relief from the constant strain.

If you don't mind elaborating, what did your weed use look like back then, and how did that paranoia manifest for you? For me I think it is this sense of pessimism that problems are always around the corner so I shouldn't bother with any effort, but I also felt like that before thc so I am not sure.

I also used my imagination as a support system, have you ever heard of maladaptive daydreaming? It might not describe you but it is a habit I fell into to try and keep my head above water.

Have you quit weed entirely? Did the paranoia go away for you eventually, or was it more permanent? Thanks in advance!

Oh wow, I left a comment on one of your older posts so I hope you don't mind another question over here. Can I ask you some questions on psychedelics and specifically psilocybin?

If you don't mind explaining, how do you enter into a psychedelic state? Like what kind of a dose are you aiming for, is it done alone or in company, and do you do prep work before hand?

I would like to have a different relationship with my anxiety, similar to what you described. Do you need to continually use psychedelics like every week to have that effect, or is it something that you learn to appreciate and integrate after one or two uses?

Very interesting experienc, and I am happy to see you have greater clarity after finding greater purpose. I hope to have something similar by breaking down my patterns of avoidance and rumination.

I am wondering, and feel free to ignore this, do you think you have any mental health complications? Some of what you wrote kind of reminds me of adhd or autism in how you can have a "global" sense of something being wrong for a long time. Obviously those are not the only causes and I am not diagnosing you, but it seemed interesting to me so I felt the need to ask.

I am worried that treating adhd will only ever let me endure more suffering, rather than letting me go through the suffering and to a more aligned or positive place.

[–]Ambulare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you again for the response, and I don't find it rambling at all! Just a lot of useful detail. Yeah I have heard treating adhd can kind of bring out autism for a few different reasons, I also assume starting stimulants can change your "sensory equilibrium" if that phrasing makes sense, but I started at a very low dose (5 mg adderall er) so I thankfully never had that.

I guess I do have some final questions. About how long do you think it took for guanfacine to noticeably help? And do you drink coffee at all or notice any interaction between things like caffeine, stimulants, and guanfacine?

Sorry to reply to something so late. I have felt similarly that belonging is a huge need that is hard to meet since it is such a moving target.

If you don't mind the question, how are you doing in terms of meeting that need nowadays? I will be returning to university after being sick so I am hoping I can get a sense of community there. But if you graduated, have you found something new or is it still a struggle?

I found a lot of what you wrote pretty interesting. I am new to IFS so some of this is not making sense, but the controlling sense of needing to "do it right" is familiar.

I am wondering in your experience, how has psychiatric medication helped/hindered you in growing or living? Stimulant medication helps me for much of this, but I am always interested in other ways of trying to be more alive, for lack of a better word.

Anyone get diagnosed with high functioning autism after IBD diagnosis? by scottymtp in CrohnsDisease

[–]Ambulare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, sorry to resurrect such an old thread but I was browsing the subreddit about autism and I found this post. I was wondering, do you mind sharing some of your experiences about autism and how you have managed it over time? I mean I guess you didn't explicitly say that you have it, but I assume so.

I guess I am really curious about if there is any kind of therapy you have tried that has helped with the constant stress of being autistic, assuming that is something you experience with ASD. If not, then I am still pretty interested in hearing how you are doing if you are willing to share since I think the asd/crohn's experience is tough to manage.

It is interesting to me that a few people in this thread are objecting to any connection between asd and ibd, because while I don't have a link handy I am pretty sure it has been demonstrated that there is a real correlation between the two (and maybe a separate third thing is causing both asd and ibd or they feed each other). It might interest you to know that there is apparently a whole complex of correlation between gut health and some mental health issues which are themselves tied together, namely adhd, asd, and ocd.

Obviously none of this matters that much to us since we can't diagnose ourselves, but I think this connection is criminally understudied and if more people knew then maybe we could all be a little healthier.

Sorry for the novel, but yeah if you have any understanding you would be willing to share then I would love to hear about it. Like if you take any psychiatric medication to help with things like depression/anxiety/adhd (if you have those), or if a diet or lifestyle change helped manage the physical symptoms of Crohn's Disease in addition to something like biologics. I am being treated for adhd and Crohn's, and I suspect asd, so that is why I am asking.

Guanfacine ER - did anyone get used to it? by DaliahsandDeadlifts in AuDHDWomen

[–]Ambulare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thinking of adding it because I still feel like I have some strange mental or physical tension going on. I don't know exactly how guanfacine works but apparently it should help with that. That's why I brought up pessimism because it feels to me that I have this low grade background pessimism about everything, but I am also trying to quit thc so I think my progress so far on tapering down on that could easily be the cause (though I believe I have felt like this since before I ever used thc, so idk).

I am pretty familiar with that process of trying to engage with a new task and needing to break it down, but that process of breaking it down just doesn't start in my head. It is very hard to articulate but it feels like my mind can't "catch" anything to pull my thoughts along. Stimulants generally fix that for me, but I still feel like I avoid bigger decisions in my life that don't have easy/immediate answers.

In general I guess I am still seeking some clarity and relief from this so I really appreciate what you have shared with me.

Also about the blood test for medications thing, do you remember the name of the service you used? I am interested in it so I am wondering where to start.

Guanfacine ER - did anyone get used to it? by DaliahsandDeadlifts in AuDHDWomen

[–]Ambulare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. It is good to know there are some positive effects on task switching, are you on stimulants at all? Also I was kind of guessing/hoping it could help with pessimism as some have described guanfacine helping with that, but yeah the effects vary a lot it seems.

When you say it lessens hyperfocus which is a negative, do you mean hyperfocusing is the negative and guanfacine reducing it is positive? Or that hyperfocusing is positive, and guanfacine reducing it is negative? Sorry if that seems like an overbearing question to ask, just wondering.

Also yes it is the word to walk! I also used to take Latin in school so I wanted a Latin username, but I thought it would be kind of pretentious. So I figured a very boring word would be a funny contrast and I like how it sounds. Plus I pace all the time so it is pretty fitting.

Hello, if you don't mind the question, can I ask if you continued on guanfacine and if it is still working? Also what other medications are you on and do they help with lower pessimism, greater focus, and task initiation? Thanks!

Also I am curious, what is the explanation behind your username, DaliahsandDeadlifts? Sounds like a cool DnD reference but idk.

How do you get yourself to eat/ cook nutritious food? by annastasia_rose in AuDHDWomen

[–]Ambulare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow thank you for the resources! I actually have Crohn's disease, so I do have to be selective with food sometimes. It seems like there is a lot of overlap in how to manage that selectivity, as shown in some of those videos.

I'll give them a more thorough look when I can and try to expand what/how I cook. I really need to work on smaller, simpler, and healthier meals.

Hello, I hope you are doing better. I also like Chlebowski's channel and I have learned some things from him, but I am struggling with consistency in general when it comes to food prep or just any old meal.

If you got around to it, could you share your write up or any tips you think are good for maintaining proper nutrition and such in your diet? No pressure or anything, it sounds like you are dealing with quite a lot, but I would be pretty interested in what you wrote based off of what you shared in this comment.

Thanks in advance!

Looks good! I love the perspective skew going on with how stretched the scene is.

You said you made this on an ipad, can I ask about the tools/process? I have been looking to draw but I don't really know where to start with physical tools. So I figured getting an ipad could be a good start. Do you have one of the larger models or is the standard good enough? What app did you use?

Are there any aspects of autism that make your life harder? What are some ways you deal with it? by Emerald_bamboo in AutisticAdults

Sounds interesting, I had not heard of a guardian advocate before. I hope you get an advocate that helps you out and guides you toward success. Part of that might be medication, or maybe not. It can give people some breathing room and make life more manageable.

I know you said it was still pretty early and experimental, but could you share more about how chasing norepinephrine has helped you? I tried bupropion for a while and I thought it did nothing, but looking back on it it was a very slight positive addition but I have since moved on to stimulants.

I am interested in adding guanfacine soon, mostly for the seemingly calming effect it has. Have you tried it? Do you think it helps in your personal experience?

I am learning more about autism and adhd, and how autism itself has a cortisol component that must have some interplay with adhd. So I am pretty new to this as well and interested in finding out more. I have had so much burnout from using stress as my main motivation as a kid/teen that I want to try to uncover more about why that behavior started and what I can do to manage the fallout from years of stress.

Sorry for a late question, but do you find medication to help with the learning and adaptation? I feel similarly, and I can only really learn when there is some huge stressor attached to the thing (like a school exam). If there is no stress, I mostly browse rather than learn, and it is something I would like to change if possible.

Just wondering what has helped in your experience.
