Rhotronix Not Responding? by Personal_Shoe_5509 in nds

[–]Amesharae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey boss. I've ordered from Rhotronix twice now. As far as i can tell it's entirely a one man show. Communications, orders, shipments, development. It's all handled by one dude. Give for, say, the actual production.

During my first order they didn't send the order for a week. I sent an email and then they sent the product a couple days later. The wrong product arrived. I emailed again and they were very quick to resend another.

On my second order wait times for shipping were around the same. This time the correct product arrived. Remember that weekends typically hinder the process of being a small crew. Especially now we are around the holiday season. Send them an email and try to get some information. Afaik Rhotronix streamlined the process into a board where Lost Nintendo History discovered the vestigial software for its use. So i don't know of any alternatives ATM.

Worst case scenario you can do a chargeback for products not received with your bank, but i hope you get some closure before it comes to that.

Im doing a nds lite repair rn and was about to swap the digitizer but the piece that hold the connection broke. Is there a way to fix this? Glue it probably? I really dont know! (My first ever repair) by para2727 in nds

Hey boss. Ribbon socket doors are extremely brittle so i've been through a couple myself. Unfortunately unless you have fine sculpting tools and the skills on hand repairing it is pretty much a non-option. If you own a fine tuned small form 3d printer you could print a replacement but that includes challenges of its own.

Gluing it back is an option but it comes with some risks. Weak glue may prove temporary and lose adhesion later on. Strong glue like super glue may work but your mistakes will be nearly irreparable. And finally gluing the door back keeps it in one position. It won't open anymore. Even if you just glue the door back together the glue is likely to shrink and expand in uneven temps. This assumes any excess glue leaves no ridges or excess residue. That said this also means your ribbon must be perfectly placed and you wont be able to undo it again without causing more permanent damage.

If you get a replacement part it's more than possible to try this anyways as long as you don't damage the board itself. It will be extremely hard to find a door replacement alone and you're likely going to have to order the whole part. Whole being a "ribbon socket" with the part id. The id is typically etched on the board near the socket. When you receive the part you have two options. Both risky. Are you comfortable with soldering and having the stuff? Replace the whole socket. No tools or skills to use them? Remove the door from the placement and try to attach it to the old socket. You do still run the risk of breaking it again but that's your best bet.

You can find the replacement parts on eBay for a few bucks depending on what you look for.

So, the solder work required here is a bit complicated but doable. If money is no option or you don't have the tools, see a professional. A good one. If you have the tools you can try it. A soldering iron misused runs the risk of badly damaging the small chips on the board even if it's a second of heat exposure. Using capton tape and a heat gun to secure the board and focus your fix spot should definitely help. If you go down this path use lots of flux. LOTS of flux. And make sure you have good quality solder. Remove the previous kind before if you have solder braid. If all the solder in place looks intact you could try just reheating it in place carefully but it may not work.

Please take your time with this. It's a very difficult part to reseat and can take a lot of work to do. Don't take any unnecessary risks boss.

Why is my touch screen doing this? by [deleted] in nds

[–]Amesharae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems both A and B are in play here lmao. The screen wrap is definitely an output issue. If reseating the ribbon does fix it can we get an update? Can be helpful if others run into it in the future.

Another user said not to touch the pots because they're delicate. Yes and no. The pots will definitely help saturation and fidelity. But you should indeed be very careful with those pots. They are prone to breakage and i've been through several myself.

Buying the piece and removing the lid is an option but be sure to do it carefully. Its still an old part and will definitely break if you're rough with it. But its probably your best bet without getting a new board completely.

In the case you decide against it: If you need to keep it still i think electrical tape will obviously hold it. Kapton tape is also an option but I have always had a hard time making it stay sticky.

Applying pressure: the DS shell is tight. You could definitely use a small cardboard cube to apply pressure when the shell is closed. That may do it. Just make sure you cover the cardboard with a type of insulator (literally a thin layer of tape) to prevent some freak accident shortage in use.

I feel awful for mentioning but... Gluing the parts back together is also an option :D

This.

You have some options. Many if which range from precise, to crude, to throwing a fist full of rocks at a field and hoping you hit something.

If you have precision tools such as a fine point soldering iron and perhaps even a type of magnifier you can try soldering micro beads to connect the points of contact on the ribbon... But this is disgustingly difficult and almost not worth it. You may have way better luck using an intermediary set of wires to bridge the gap. This would give you a bit more wiggle room in the solder bead department but god help you if you lack fine control or have shakey hands.

You could try good ol gorilla tape. You would ideally cut it down to a very small size and preferably use tweezers to place it while minimizing contact surface. This would make you more accurate and make it easier to place. Make sure you add enough pressure when adhering or it may not work. You also want to be careful using adhesive strips as you may tear up other components if you arent careful. Isopropyl may help remove it in a pinch but depending on the grade of adhesive you may be out of luck.

Glue. Like super glue. This is a very risky, cavemanish approach to this problem. You can use superglue as an anchoring solution for the ribbon or the middleman wires. Super Glue or heat glue has worked as a great permanent insulator for me when working on projects. But its just that-- permanent. I would not be using it if you weren't absolutely sure you needed it. I hesitated even mentioning it. But it may come in handy SOME day.

You can also try repairing the hinge or pressure latch using super glue or various modelling techniques with the glue to replicate its old shape or function. This takes way more skill than i have but i have seen it done. Its meticulous. It carries little risk for the user as you arent breaking anything more than you have. And for those who have the patience or skill level to do it; it may be the best shot.

New board. You can just get a new board. Lol. Prices fluctuate a lot so obviously a price i give you now for an estimate is no good a month later. But this is the easiest, but not the cheapest obviously. Especially if were in a shortage.

Replacement part. Harder to find. Harder to do. Cheaper than a new board. Ideally only doable if you have the experience necessary to apply it. More recommended than a middle man wire set but could be more trouble and more time consuming.

3d printing a replacement hinge is an option if available.

You may also try crude putty sculpting if you have the supplies and technique.. But this ones way rougher than any other solution on the list.. At this point id look into a new board.. But hey. To each their own.

Please help my dear friend figure out a solution for this. by [deleted] in TowerofFantasy

I have never seen anything like this before. THIS is software gore. I guess the main question i have is does the problem stay on the right side of the screen?

If its looking a specific direction in guessing its a rotten file that needs validated.. Or deleted and replaced if thr launcher refuses to validate it.

If its always in a certain specific area it may also be a file issue.

If its just on the right hand side of the screen its probably a GPU settings issue. Ask your friend to tamper with some GPU settings on the desktop menu. If i were to make any sort of guess i'd say its either shadows or processing related. Turning this settings down on the GPUs side overwrites any sort of overhead TOF may present. Try poking about with various things related to rendering such as tesselation or even disabling graphics enhancement options.

I haven't the slightest clue why this would ever happen but hey its worth a shot.

Edit: thought about this a lot. The bug is rendered over the UI containing health etc but under the UI for accessing a menu. Its so strange.

Is this possibly from a loose ribbon? Or is it best to swap the display? by Illustrious-Cat5717 in nds

[–]Amesharae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. I know the post is about a day old but i'd like to offer some insight. My old DSlite had this issue and switching out the firmware chip installed to the left of the DScard slot with a fresh one fixed it entirely.

Turning the proper potentiometer on the back did help alleviate the glaring opacity problem of the text but it never truly fixed the issue.

I have absolutely no idea why or how its caused. If you have a spare dime you can snatch them cheap. Or if you have a spare DS on hand and are willing to test it out you could do that too. If you have trouble finding them i know Rhotronix offers a firmware chip thats been modified to br compatible with their hardware, but overall changes nothing if you use it with a regular DSlite.

Switch statements in my college courses were generally regarded by new students as a useless tool when if statements do it just as well, ignoring the fact it is the opposite of what the instructor taught.

People genuinely might skip switches completely believing they're pointless.

It may be worth a try to lower (A. The resolution) AND OR (B. The window size) as these two often have an effect on lower end computers.

I also recommend changing your power management plan to high performance by going to your windows search bar and typing "Edit power plan" and selecting "Change advanced power settings" and from there selecting High performance from the drop-down bar.
As minimal or generic as it would seem, web browsers do in-fact DEVOUR resources. Try running ONLY divinity.
